North Kilworth – Theatre, Nature and Village History
Accommodation in North Kilworth
North Kilworth offers several reasons to tailor a stay to your personal interests: open-air theatre, green spaces, walking trails and historic sites. When choosing a hotel, consider which aspect matters most for your trip. If you are travelling to attend a performance, check the event dates before booking your stay.
Theatre in a wooded parkland setting
Kilworth House Theatre is on Lutterworth Road in North Kilworth, Leicestershire. It is a professional open-air theatre set in the wooded grounds of Kilworth House Hotel, presenting live musicals and theatre productions. The theatre therefore combines a specific cultural activity with an outdoor venue. When planning a visit, the performance date is the main consideration.
Green spaces and nature
Millennium Green is a quiet green space in the centre of North Kilworth, right next to the Village Hall. A wooden walkway was built with the aim of providing access for all visitors. The Green is the probable site of a medieval manor house surrounded by a moat. Thus, the present-day village green and a historical connection sit side by side in the same area.
The Bogs is a rare wetland with numerous natural springs. Unlike centrally located Millennium Green, the landscape here is characterised by wetlands and springs. If you choose nature destinations based on their character, you can consider the quiet village green and the rare wetland as distinct experiences.
Walking trails and golf
Visit Harborough offers a downloadable North Kilworth Trail in its local walking guides. The bridleway through Stoney offers open views across the Avon Valley. The unpaved Old Drovers Road, the old cattle-drovers’ route, is a public right of way and continues to Welford. The view is associated with the bridleway through Stoney; the Old Drovers Road is distinguished by its public right-of-way status and its continuation to Welford. This makes it possible to choose between the two routes according to different interests: valley views or a public path with a stated destination.
Another activity is available at the driving range of Kilworth Springs Golf Club. It has 19 bays, is floodlit and can be used in all weather. Alongside the trails, this offers specific golfing options, with a different focus from views or the route itself.
Church and local history
St Andrew’s Church is built of local cobblestones and was restored by Joseph Clarke in 1864–1865. The North Kilworth War Memorial commemorates the First World War: it was unveiled in 1920 and altered after the Second World War. It remembers nine local members of the armed forces who fell in the First World War, as well as four people who fell in the Second World War. The two wartime periods are thus represented at one memorial, while the numbers given remain associated with the fallen of the respective wars.
At the southeastern edge of the village, the North Kilworth Conservation Area includes the site of a former hall surrounded by a moat. This site should be distinguished from the probable site of the medieval manor house on Millennium Green: the two historical connections are located in different places.
