Kirkby Mallory combines listed buildings, connections to Ada Lovelace, designated footpaths and motorsport. These offer different starting points for planning your trip: a history of construction spanning several periods, specific route descriptions and a visitor programme centred on motor racing.

Church, tomb monument and Ada Lovelace

The Church of All Saints is a Grade II* listed parish church. Its fabric dates from the early 14th century; the west tower dates from the 15th century, and the church was altered in the early 18th century. Its building history therefore encompasses several distinct periods. To understand it, it is helpful to distinguish between the early fabric, the later tower and the alterations made in the 18th century.

The Lovelace Memorial offers a different point of interest: it is a Grade II listed tomb monument. It stands on Church Road, approximately 30 metres south of the Church of All Saints. The parish church and tomb monument are therefore close to one another, but represent different forms of historic heritage.

Mallory Park Racing Circuit is also connected to Ada Lovelace. An “Ada Lovelace blue plaque” was unveiled there in her memory. The plaque is on the corner of the Grade II listed coach house. Kirkby Hall, Ada Lovelace’s childhood home, formerly stood on the site. This place thus brings together the memory of Ada Lovelace, a listed building and the history of the former house.

Footpaths and a walk

The “Explore Kirkby Mallory Village Loop” is approximately 2.5 kilometres long and takes about 30 minutes. Both figures are estimates and provide a rough guide for planning your time.

Footpaths T81, T82 and T85 can be distinguished by their routes and endpoints. T81 runs from Newbold Lane via Main Street in Kirkby Mallory to Church Road, west of the school. T82 runs from Main Street to footpath T70, east of Stocks House Farm. T85 runs from footpath T76 at the south-western end of Church Road to Shilton Road in Kirkby Mallory. Use these named roads and connections to help you find your way. Conditions on the footpaths can change, so check them before setting out.

The approximate distance and duration of the loop offer a rough planning guide; for a particular event, its scheduled dates are a useful starting point for planning your trip.
