Kleinobringen between local history and countryside

Kleinobringen was first mentioned on June 13, 1342. This date gives the town’s history a specific point of reference. Other perspectives directly connected with Kleinobringen also help visitors understand the destination: the Bachlange and the Rassel, the tree species that shape the townscape, and a distant view that opens up in good weather. The historical date and the features of the landscape offer different ways of discovering the place: one through time, the other through its surroundings.

Waterways, trees and distant views

The Bachlange and the Rassel flow through Kleinobringen; within the town, the Rassel runs underground through a culvert. The visible course of the Rassel is limited: it can be seen at the edge of the village and outside the town, while within the town it runs through a culvert. It is therefore part of Kleinobringen’s waterscape, although it is not visible above ground everywhere.

Birches, small-leaved lime trees, chestnut trees and ash trees shape the townscape. In good weather, the view from Kleinobringen stretches across the Thuringian Basin to the ridges of the Finnen, the Schmücke and the Hainleite, as well as to the Kyffhäuser. This view depends on good weather. If distant views are important to your trip, plan to enjoy them as a possibility in good weather.

The Kleine Ettersberg Loop

Beyond the local landscape features, the Kleine Ettersberg Loop connects Kleinobringen with the wider region. The circular route is 23.5 kilometers long and runs over the Ettersberg and through the villages to the east. It connects Ettersburg Palace, Wohlsborn, GroĂźobringen, Kleinobringen and Heichelheim. Kleinobringen is explicitly on the route. The distance and the sequence of places provide different points of reference for planning: the kilometer figure describes the total length, while the named places show which stops the loop passes through. This makes it possible to place Kleinobringen within a longer tour.

Between Heichelheim and Kleinobringen, a field path on the Kleine Ettersberg Loop provides a shortcut of about 1.5 kilometers uphill toward Ettersburger StraĂźe. This information concerns one section, not the 23.5-kilometer loop as a whole. The figures therefore refer to two different scales: about 1.5 kilometers describes the shortcut, while 23.5 kilometers is the total length of the loop. The direction and the climb are also relevant when assessing this section. As conditions on the route may change, check them before your trip.

For planning purposes, the view and the loop answer different questions: the distant view describes what can be seen from Kleinobringen in good weather; the route details describe the length and course of the loop, including the shortcut. This allows you to consider the town’s landscape and your route planning separately.
