Accommodation in Großliebringen
Großliebringen is located in the Deube Valley, named after the small river Deube. For choosing a place to stay, the village offers a clear historical focus: the Edelhof, the church, the remains of the moated castle and the Old Village Smithy. They offer different architectural and historical highlights.
Historic Buildings in Großliebringen
The Edelhof in Großliebringen is a former feudal residence surrounded by a moat and an imposing half-timbered building. Part of the moat remains. The site's former function as a feudal residence, its half-timbered construction and a surviving section of the moat are distinct features side by side.
Only the moat, built-over foundation walls and two barrel vaults in the cellar remain of Großliebringen Castle. Unlike the Edelhof, with its half-timbered building, the focus here is on a limited number of surviving remains. A barrel vault is a lengthwise, arched ceiling; the two cellar vaults thus identify a specific architectural form among the surviving remains.
The church in Großliebringen is first mentioned in 1119 and had a strongly fortified character. Part of a wall with arrow slits still remains at the church; this architectural detail makes its fortified character tangible. Following later repairs and alterations, the church acquired its present appearance around 1900. The first mention and the later design mark distinct points in time.
The Old Village Smithy in Großliebringen is a technical monument dating from 1878 and is still operational. It adds a technical perspective on the village's history alongside its architecture.
