If you are considering Brunsbek as a travel destination, cycling, the landscape, and a few cultural and culinary stops offer some specific points of interest. Route C passes through Papendorf and Langelohe, following the route of a former railway. The nature conservation area, the history of the Siek parish, and farm shop offerings add to the experience.

Landscape and Protected Nature

The “Corbek, Brunsteichbach and Brunsbach” nature conservation area also includes land in Brunsbek. East of Papendorf, deciduous woodland and grassland are part of the protected area. Its conservation objectives include nature-friendly recreation through experiencing and enjoying nature and the landscape. This makes taking in the landscape and nature an important part of a visit, alongside cycling and local history.

Route C and Railway History

Route C passes through Papendorf and Langelohe, following the former route of the Südstormarn County Railway. The former railway opened in 1907 and closed in 1952. The route thus brings together a present-day cycle path and the history of a disused railway line. Route C has local waymarking and nine information boards, including boards in Papendorf and Langelohe. As signs and boards may change, check them before your ride.

A separate infrastructure note concerns a section of cycle path in Papendorf: in 2019, an approximately two-kilometre stretch between an area south of Papendorf and State Road 92 was resurfaced and widened to 2.50 metres. This was a measure carried out in 2019. If the current condition matters for your plans, check the section before your ride.

The Stormarn Village Museum is also one of the highlights along Route C. Check the visiting arrangements separately if you are planning a visit. This allows you to consider the museum as a distinct cultural aspect of the route, without conflating it with the history of the former railway line.

Parish and Architectural History

The Brunsbek districts of Papendorf, Langelohe, and Kronshorst belong to the Siek parish. The Friedenskirche in Siek houses a bronze baptismal font dating from the mid-14th century. The church also invites visitors to explore traces of around 800 years of architectural history. For those interested in cultural history, these details complement the railway route with a story of sacred architecture.

Farm Shops in Langelohe and Kronshorst

In Langelohe, Fischer's Milchtankstelle offers fresh milk to be dispensed around the clock, seven days a week. The Kronshorster Lindenhof in Kronshorst runs a farm shop selling meat, sausage, fresh eggs, yoghurt, cheese, and seasonal vegetables. It also offers smoked fish monthly; bread rolls, bread, and cake are available on Saturdays. Check in advance whether the products are available and what dates currently apply.

Cycling in the Wider Stormarn Destination

In the wider Stormarn destination, there are more than 50 kilometres of well-maintained paths along three disused railway lines, complemented by information boards on railway history. This distance refers to Stormarn as a whole. Information about Route C, by contrast, describes its specific route through Papendorf and Langelohe. The two provide different scales for understanding cycling in the region.
