There are several destinations to choose from during a stay in Tarp: a circular trail along the Treene, a scenic route with views of wet meadows, the boulder garden, Mühle Antje and the leisure pool. Their specific features can help you decide how to spend your time here. If you enjoy walking, you can compare two trails with different landmarks; the boulder garden also offers geological information and reconstructed archaeological features.

Exploring Tarp on foot: two routes

The Owl Trail is a permanent, freely accessible hiking trail and a circular route; you can start at any point. It follows the Treene to the Behm-Hütte, with carved owl figures along the route. Its circular layout, flexible starting points and destination make the route easy to understand. Temporary local restrictions may affect access. Check the route information and local conditions before setting out; trail conditions can also change.

The Church and Viewpoint Tour crosses the Treene via the Fischerbrücke. Along the tour, you can look out over the wet meadows of the Treenetal, where there is a stork’s nest; White Park cattle graze in the meadows. When choosing between the two routes, there is a clear point of comparison: the Owl Trail is explicitly a circular route, while the Church and Viewpoint Tour is distinguished by its river crossing via the Fischerbrücke.

Boulders, archaeology and the Treenetal

The freely accessible Tarp boulder garden displays around 70 boulders. Information about their material, origin and glacial transport offers three perspectives on the stones: what they are made of, where they came from and how glaciers moved them. There are also reconstructed archaeological features: a stone circle, a burial mound with a tree-trunk coffin and a chamber tomb. A visit thus connects the geological history of the rocks with tangible examples of archaeological reconstruction.

The Treene viewpoint offers views of the river and the surrounding nature. The Treenetal landscape includes forests, meadows and lakes. This places the views of the river and its surroundings within a broader landscape context, without attributing every feature of the Treenetal to a single viewpoint.
