Mittelangeln offers several specific reasons to visit: a historic walking route, paths through green spaces, a museum and cultural heritage sites. Topics range from local history in Satrup to moorland and forest. When planning, you can decide whether you are interested in historic stops, information about nature, circular walks of different lengths or the outdoor swimming pool.

Circular walks with their own focus

The Historic Satrup Circular Walk has eleven stops showcasing the history of the centre of Mittelangeln. The walk takes approximately 45 minutes. The suggested starting point is the parking area at the ADS kindergarten, FlensburgerstraĂźe 6a. As access information may change, check the local situation before setting off.

At Rehberg Grove, you can choose between two circular routes: a shorter 1.6-kilometre route and a longer 3.25-kilometre route. The longer route includes outdoor fitness stations. You can weigh up the route length and this additional exercise option together. If the stations are important to your plans, check their condition before your visit, as their availability may change.

Moorland, forest and protected areas

At Satrupholmer Moor, information boards introduce visitors to the flora and fauna of the moor. The focus is therefore on learning about nature rather than the local history covered by the Historic Satrup Circular Walk. Distinct from Satrupholmer Moor is Hechtmoor, a 34-hectare area designated as a nature reserve in 1941.

The Rehbergholz and Schwennholz protected area includes six megalithic tombs. Hiking and walking paths wind through the forest around Rehbergholz and Schwennholz. This offers two different points of interest: archaeological heritage and paths through a forest landscape.

Local history in Satrup

The Satruphuus Museum is housed in a former shop building dating from 1846. Across three floors, it presents local topics relating to trade, crafts and industry, the Redlefsen company, Satrup’s railway stations and historic working methods. The exhibition thus combines economic and everyday history with the development of the town.

The late Romanesque St. Laurentius Church in Satrup was built around 1200. A knight’s image incorporated into the church is believed to be the oldest in Schleswig-Holstein. A medieval motte once stood on a barely visible hill by the Mühlenstrom. Your choice of theme can therefore include economic and working history, sacred architecture or medieval fortifications.

Swimming at Satrup Outdoor Pool

Satrup Outdoor Pool has four different pools; the swimming pool has five 25-metre lanes. If the number of lanes is important to your plans, check the current pool configuration before your visit, as the facilities may change.
