Rüdeheck is located right by Mühlenteich, also known here as Rüder See. The pond was dammed by the monks of Rudekloster. By the water, you can watch birds and water spiders; fishing is also possible. This makes the body of water a tangible point of reference for nature enthusiasts and the history of the area.

At Mühlenteich

Pike, bream, eels, tench and rudd can be caught in Mühlenteich. A valid fishing licence and an additional fishing permit are required for fishing. Watching birds and water spiders, and fishing, appeal to different interests; if you want to fish, remember to bring both required documents.

Landscapes and trails in the municipality of Glücksburg

Friedeholz stretches from the town centre to Schausende, reaches the sea and covers around 300 hectares. Friedeholz has a nature playground and a wild boar enclosure, where visitors can stop and watch the wild boars. The several-kilometre-long Dolmen Trail also leads to ten prehistoric megalithic tombs in the forest. Here, nature watching and a playground meet a trail with an archaeological focus.

The Brusmark Circular Trail offers a different route: it is 4.2 kilometres long, passes the artefact climate park and returns to the starting point along the shore of Rüder See. The Dolmen Trail, by contrast, leads to the megalithic tombs in Friedeholz. This gives you the choice between a trail with an archaeological destination and a circular route with a stretch along the shore.

Holnis and other destinations

The Holnis peninsula, in the municipality of Glücksburg, is home to a 400-hectare nature reserve protected by NABU Schleswig-Holstein. A 10-kilometre hiking trail runs across the peninsula and through the nature reserve of the same name. Compared with the 4.2-kilometre Brusmark Circular Trail, the stated route is longer and passes through the protected area. Check local trail conditions before your hike. For a comparison of areas, Friedeholz covers around 300 hectares, while the Holnis nature reserve covers 400 hectares. The protected area is therefore around 100 hectares larger. The landscapes also differ: Friedeholz is a forest, while Holnis is a peninsula with a nature reserve. This comparison sets the two nature destinations apart by size and landscape.

At the artefact climate park in Glücksburg, visitors can experience energy interactively at more than 40 stations. Alongside the hiking trails and nature destinations, this offers a separate theme to explore in the municipality. Glücksburg Castle also provides a historical connection: it was built between 1582 and 1587.
