At Hollmarksee

Hollmarksee is a spring-fed inland lake in Freienwill. After a drainage ditch to the Kielstau was built in 1906, its area decreased from 4.05 to 1.9 hectares. In the early 1920s, the lake was discovered as a swimming lake. The bathing area includes a non-swimmer area for children, a bathing island and a separate island with a diving tower. Changing rooms and sanitary facilities complete the amenities. A large sunbathing lawn has sunny and shaded areas; the kiosk offers a large outdoor terrace, refreshments and snacks. Parking is also available at Hollmarksee. Since bathing facilities, services and parking availability may change, check the latest information before your visit.

Cycling the Uggelhardetour

The 29-kilometre Uggelhardetour runs through the historic Uggelharde and follows part of the historic Ox Road. It is a circular route that you can join at any point. The route is signposted locally. Its length gives you a concrete framework for planning a cycling trip; the route and signage may change. So check the latest route information before setting off.

Höckberg and woodland paths

Höckberg is considered Freienwill's local mountain and lies 82 metres above sea level. From the Höckberg area, on a clear day the view extends east to Satrup and Sörup, south towards Schleswig and west towards Großenwiehe. Visibility is affected by vegetation as well as the weather. If you prefer to explore on foot, the forest north of the Höckberg transmitter has paths for walks and recreation. Path conditions may change; take them into account when planning your visit.

Buildings and local history

St. John's Church in Kleinsolt is located in Freienwill and is a 12th-century fieldstone building. The church and its churchyard are considered historically, artistically, urbanistically and culturally significant. West of the village is a group of burial mounds containing Bronze Age graves. The Grühbrücke is considered Angelns' only surviving single-span granite-block bridge.

The history of transport here can also be viewed in two stages: Freienwill had its own railway station until 1936. A former narrow-gauge railway connected Freienwill via the Flensburger Kreisbahn towards Flensburg and Angeln. The station and railway connection are historical landmarks; they do not indicate current travel arrangements.

Beer seminars and tastings

De Beermokers ut’n Norden offers beer seminars and tastings. The company describes its beer as a natural product, unfiltered, untreated and with no additives. If you would like to plan a seminar or tasting, check the visiting and opening arrangements in advance, as these may change.
