Güby lies between Schleswig and Eckernförde and is connected to the Schlei region’s cycling and hiking trail network. This gives your travel planning a geographic point of reference and links it to exploring by bike or on foot. If you’re looking for a hotel in Güby, you can consider whether trails and landscapes or cultural history should be the focus of your stay. For a broader perspective, it is also worth looking at the wider Rendsburg-Eckernförde travel destination.

Trails and park history

Before setting out on a specific tour, check the trail signage and the conditions on your chosen route: both can change. This lets you include cycling or hiking in your plans without committing to a particular route in advance.

The historic park at Louisenlund features Freemasonry-influenced garden architecture, a cosmological sundial, and the foundations of an alchemist’s tower. Public history tours are offered regularly and last around three hours. If you plan to join a tour, check the dates and registration requirements in advance, as both can change.

Rendsburg-Eckernförde district has 55 kilometers of Baltic Sea coastline and a 1,000-kilometer signposted cycling network. The district is also home to four nature parks. Around 70 kilometers, or two-thirds, of the Kiel Canal run through Rendsburg-Eckernförde district. The four-kilometer-long white sandy beach is in Eckernförde. Rendsburg’s Old Town dates back to the 13th century and is still characterized by medieval buildings. The Dutch-style windmill in Groß Wittensee dates from 1874. Eckernförde is associated with smoking sprats and other small fish; the famous “Kiel sprats” actually come from the fishing town of Eckernförde.

The nature parks in the district consist largely of nature reserves and protected landscapes, providing habitats for a diverse range of animal and plant life. Westensee-Obere Eider Nature Park is characterized by numerous clusters of lakes in the Schleswig-Holstein Uplands. It includes Westensee, covering around 7 km², a popular destination for day trips. The banks of the Eider in this nature park provide a habitat for kingfishers; Dosenmoor is also home to distinctive flora and fauna.

For hiking, the district has the 180-kilometer Nature Park Hiking Trail, which passes through all four nature parks. The European long-distance path E1 is marked throughout with a white St. Andrew’s cross and runs through the Hüttener Berge, the Brekendorfer Wald, and over the Aschberg. At 98 meters high, the Aschberg offers views on clear days as far as the Kiel Canal, Eckernförde Bay, and Kiel. This makes it possible to include a range of regional hiking destinations and a viewpoint with weather-dependent panoramic views in your travel plans.
