Discover Büdelsdorf
Accommodation in Büdelsdorf
Büdelsdorf offers two distinct areas of interest for planning a trip: cultural and industrial history, and green spaces by the water. The Iron Art Casting Museum, Carlshütte and Hollersche Anlagen give your stay a clear focus. Depending on your travel dates, seasonal events and the natural swimming pool may also be available. When choosing a hotel, consider whether you want your stay to focus more on exhibitions, a walk or a seasonal activity.
Industrial History and Art
The Büdelsdorf Iron Art Casting Museum displays around 180 exhibits. Its focus is cast iron, artistic iron casting and the cultural history of the material in the 19th century. The focus thus ranges from the material itself to its artistic use and historical significance. Carlshütte was founded in 1827 and was the first industrial company in Schleswig and Holstein. The site also features a bridge cast by Carlshütte in 1834 as a historic landmark.
Kunstwerk Carlshütte offers exhibitions, concerts, readings, theatre performances and film screenings; some programmes are seasonal. NordArt also takes place during the summer months and has been held annually since 1999. Check the dates for the year of your trip if you want to plan your stay around the event. The NordArt site has 22,000 square metres of exhibition space in the foundry halls, as well as an 80,000-square-metre sculpture park. The concert hall in the ACO Thormannhalle can accommodate 1,200 people.
Forest, the Eider and the View
Hollersche Anlagen lie along Büdelsdorf’s southern edge by the Eider. The oak and beech high forest was established between 1840 and 1850. It covers around 16 hectares between Am Friedrichsbrunnen and Wollinstraße. The forest’s layered vegetation comprises a diverse mix of trees, shrubs and ground cover. The area’s character is therefore shaped not only by its trees, but also by the layers of vegetation beneath them.
The Treidelweg follows the banks of the Eider through Hollersche Anlagen and serves as a hiking trail. It is also a meeting place for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. Fährhaus - Hollersche Anlagen offers a café and canoe hire. As visitor services can change, check in advance whether both are available on the day of your visit.
From the viewpoint at Audorfer See, you can see the Kiel Canal and the Eider where they meet. The viewpoint is freely accessible at all times; check access information before setting out. Evidence of prehistoric settlement is also still visible in the area: two megalithic tombs from that period remain open to visitors.
Planning Your Visit and Travel
Since the 2006 swimming season, Büdelsdorf’s natural swimming pool has operated as a fully biological natural pool. As it operates seasonally, check before your trip whether the pool will be open during your stay. This lets you plan the activity around your travel dates rather than assuming it is available year-round.
To reach the NordArt site by car, take the Rendsburg/Büdelsdorf exit from the A7, then continue for around three kilometres along the B203 to Vorwerksallee. Check your route and road signs before setting out. For travel to Carlshütte, Rendsburg station and bus connections to Büdelsdorf and Carlshütte are relevant. As routes and services can change, check the current timetable for your travel day.
