For broader nature and cycling trip planning, the wider Herzogtum Lauenburg travel destination provides its own regional setting.

Transport Links and Orientation

Dassendorf is served by bus connections. Access to the HVV network is via Aumühle S-Bahn station, about five kilometres away. The network has connections towards Hamburg, Geesthacht and Mölln. The stated distance refers to the station in Aumühle; it is not an indication of travel time.

Culture and Architecture in Dassendorf

Local amenities include a public library and adult education activities. Events are organised by the cultural association, the senior citizens’ advisory board and local clubs. The multi-purpose hall is also part of cultural life, hosting events organised by the cultural association. An open-air brunch is also held in the hall each year after the summer holidays.

The Church of Reconciliation is an architectural landmark. It was built in 1960 to plans by architects Barbara and Wolfgang Vogt. Four stained-glass windows depict scenes relating to Christmas or Epiphany, Good Friday, Easter and Ascension Day. Enamel work on the altar cross symbolises the four Evangelists. Church tours are available by arrangement through the parish office; please coordinate your visit there in advance.

Two giant beds are located at the edge of the forest opposite the golf club entrance. As archaeological features, they provide another historical point of reference in the local landscape. Their location can be considered alongside the nearby club as a local point of orientation, without treating the two as the same attraction.

Golf and Sport

The Golf-Club am Sachsenwald offers an 18-hole championship course and a 6-hole short course. The short course can be played without membership. The club welcomes guests and beginners and offers taster courses as well as courses to obtain a course licence. As course conditions and access rules may change, it is best to confirm current playing and course options before travelling.

The club includes the Ristorante am Riesenbett, which serves Italian cuisine. As the dining options may change, it is advisable to check current arrangements in advance. Club sports are also available in Dassendorf: TuS Dassendorf offers sports activities in a former tennis hall, a school sports hall and on three sports grounds, one of which is an artificial-turf pitch.

The Wider Herzogtum Lauenburg Travel Destination

Beyond Dassendorf, the wider Herzogtum Lauenburg travel destination offers a broader landscape and cultural setting. The district is 26 percent forest and includes 48 lakes. It is also home to the Sachsenwald, the largest contiguous forest in Schleswig-Holstein. The Lauenburgische Seen Nature Park has hiking trails, observation towers, educational trails and rest areas, and has been designated a protected area for visitors to enjoy since 1960.

Regional tours are available in various formats: eight themed cycling routes use mobile phones as guides at information points. E-bikes are available for hire in Mölln, Ratzeburg and other places in the region; check availability before your trip. The nature park also offers guided excursions with experts on local wildlife and plant life, as well as the district’s cultural history. Check dates for individual excursions separately.

The Alte Salzstraße is also part of the region’s cycling and cultural context. The long-distance cycle route runs from Lauenburg to Lübeck along the Elbe-Lübeck Canal and through Herzogtum Lauenburg. Its history dates back to a medieval salt-trading route. These regional attractions complement Dassendorf’s local themes, but should not be confused with facilities in the town itself.
