Norderwöhrden lies west of Heide, right next to the Heide-West exit of the A 23. The municipality is predominantly agricultural. Farm shops, cycling tours and a historic residential and farm building give visitors specific starting points for planning a stay.

Agriculture and local offerings

Local offerings include two farm shops, one of which has an attached butcher’s shop. According to its own account, Wischmann's Hof has been family-owned for three generations and grows grain and vegetables. Wischmann's Hofladen in Norderwöhrden offers fresh produce from the fields to take away; the selection may vary. If you want to shop for specific products, check what is currently available beforehand. Farm holidays are also an option in Norderwöhrden—an alternative if you are specifically looking for a hotel.

Locally organized activities include cycling tours. Dates may vary, so check the current schedule if you want to plan your trip around a specific tour.

A look at the architectural history

A historic residential and farm building stands at Hauptstraße 2. The single-storey brick building has a half-hipped roof and dates from 1803; alterations are recorded for 1914. The two dates distinguish the building’s original construction from the alterations documented later.

Dithmarschen: further cultural and nature-related attractions

In the wider destination of Dithmarschen, the Dithmarscher Landesmuseum in Meldorf takes visitors through 1,200 years of history—from the wealth of the farmers’ republic to rural everyday life in the 1960s. The Museumslandschaft Dithmarschen brings together 19 museums, run by both paid staff and volunteers, in eleven locations. Dorfwurt Wellinghusen in the Dithmarschen coastal region also offers an archaeological perspective: this early medieval settlement mound has been thoroughly researched and is considered one of the oldest settlements in Dithmarschen after the Migration Period. Earlier farm mounds can still be seen in the landscape of visible settlement mounds.

The Steinzeitpark Dithmarschen offers hands-on activities such as flint knapping, archery, making Stone Age jewelry, making fire and baking bread; the program may vary. In addition to the park, the Steinzeitwald in Albersdorf covers around 40 hectares of natural open space and contains nine original archaeological monuments. It is permanently free to access. Check access information when planning a visit.

The wide, flat landscape of the Amt Mitteldithmarschen district is ideal for nature walks. There are also three mapped cycling routes that can be followed using GPS on a mobile phone; route information and digital availability may change. On the Dithmarschen coast, knowledgeable local National Park mudflat guides lead guided walks across the mudflats. At low tide, the diverse life of the Wadden Sea becomes visible; tides and dates vary.

The region’s cabbage theme also offers specific points of interest: during the Dithmarscher Kohltage, the program across Dithmarschen includes farmers’ markets, town festivals, and sporting and cultural events. Individual events and dates may change. At the KOHLosseum’s Krautwerkstatt, demonstrations followed by tastings take place Tuesday through Thursday at 2, 3 and 4 p.m.; from November 1 until Easter, there is only a 2 p.m. demonstration. Check the times before your visit.
