Discover Niederwiesa
Accommodation in Niederwiesa
Niederwiesa offers two clear points of focus when planning a trip: cultural history and hiking. The church’s interior, the history of weaving, and exhibitions sit alongside a network of hiking trails with routes of varying lengths. You can tailor your stay depending on whether you want to spend more time at cultural sites or on trails and at viewpoints.
Church, Weaving, and Exhibitions
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Niederwiesa was built in 1898. Features of its interior include a Crucifixion group made of French limestone, a painted coffered ceiling, large stucco figures of the four Evangelists, and stained-glass windows depicting Luther and Melanchthon. Its furnishings thus combine sculptural, painted, and figurative elements with depictions of the two Reformers.
In Braunsdorf, the Historical Weaving Mill Museum is housed in a protected former industrial building. In some of the original production rooms, you can follow the traditional weaving process from yarn to finished fabric. You can explore the museum on your own, join a guided tour, or take part in a workshop. Visitor programs may vary, so check in advance which activities are scheduled for your visit.
Galerie Inselsteig hosts changing art exhibitions in an original production room of the former Tannenhauer weaving mill. As the exhibitions change, it is worth checking the current program if you are visiting for a particular theme.
