Eppendorf lies on the northern edge of the Ore Mountains. The town offers several different ways to shape your stay: hiking trails with a musical connection, traces of local history, handcrafted figures and an outdoor swimming pool.

Hiking Trails and Places to Visit

The Song Trail passes 23 song stones along the hiking trails. Audio recordings of the printed folk and hiking songs are available on site; they were recorded by the Eppendorf Folk Choir. The combination of song stones and recordings brings the musical connection to life along the trails. Another place to visit is the Anton-Günther Stone in Gersberg Forest near Eppendorf. Further afield, the Zschopau Valley Trail and the Flöha Valley Trail are highlighted as regional routes; the European long-distance trails E3 and EB also run through the wider Ore Mountains region. The region has a well-developed network of routes for cycling and horseback riding. When planning, you can choose between the local trail with its musical theme, a place to visit, and regional or long-distance routes.

Local History, Church and Craftsmanship

Eppendorf preserves traces of a former hunting lodge commissioned by Elector Augustus around 1560: the Fürstenkeller and the former prince’s garden have survived near the old grammar school. The historical story therefore encompasses both the origins of the lodge and two named remnants.

Eppendorf Church is one of the largest village churches in Saxony. It was consecrated in 1865; the 47-metre-high tower and the Göthel organ also date from that year. Guided visits can be arranged. If you are interested in church history, both the building and the organ offer specific points of interest.

Craftsmanship is another cultural theme. Björn Köhler, associated with Kunsthandwerk Köhler in Eppendorf, is a trained master woodturner. In his workshop, figures are made predominantly by hand, from the initial design through to the final finishing. This process shows that the work involves several steps, from concept to finished piece.

Outdoor Swimming Pool and Practical Information

Eppendorf outdoor swimming pool has a 50-metre pool with separate areas for swimmers and non-swimmers. A water slide and a separate paddling pool add to the facilities. There is also a large sunbathing lawn and an adjoining recreation area. Parking right by the pool is another practical feature. A kiosk sells drinks and snacks. The pool is therefore a leisure destination with swimming and relaxation areas, distinct in focus from the hiking and cultural offerings.

Both roads and bus connections are relevant when travelling to the area. Federal highways 101, 173, 174 and 180 are within a maximum distance of ten kilometres of Eppendorf. Direct bus services run to Zschopau, Augustusburg, Flöha, Chemnitz, Oederan and Brand-Erbisdorf, as well as to other destinations. For a specific journey, it is advisable to check the current timetable.
