Triebischtal Between Valleys and Mining History
Accommodation in Triebischtal
You can explore Triebischtal through its landscape, mining history and cultural sites in Miltitz. For planning your trip, signposted hiking routes, a geological trail, Jahnbad and historic sites offer different starting points. This lets you decide in advance whether you would rather focus on getting active in the countryside, regional history or a day at the pool.
Hiking and Understanding the Landscape
The Triebisch valleys offer hikes through narrow, steep-sided valleys with clear streams and centuries-old mills. A signposted point-to-point trail connects Buschbad, a district on the outskirts of Meißen, with the historic Rothschönberg manor house. This makes a specific link between two named places part of the hiking options.
The “Triebischtäler” FFH site extends along the course of the Triebisch from Grillenburg to Meißen. It includes the Kleine Triebisch, the Gallenbach and Steinbach streams, numerous side valleys and wooded slopes. The protected area’s name therefore refers to a landscape that includes not only the river but also other waterways and wooded hillsides.
The Triebischtal geological trail uses twelve information panels to explain the valley’s geological development, historical mining in the region, and its nature and landscape. One stop along the trail is the Furkert–Bartsch Mill. The trail offers an educational focus, while the signposted point-to-point route connects Buschbad with the historic Rothschönberg manor house: the two options offer different ways to explore the landscape and its history.
Mining History and Miltitz Culture
The ensemble of Miltitz Castle, the patronage church and the manor is part of one of the oldest and most significant feudal estates in the MeiĂźen district. The Miltitz castle park and chestnut grove, with its old trees, is also significant from a garden-history perspective. Alongside the landscape, these sites offer a cultural focus distinct from the mining history.
The Miltitz limestone mine was extended across four levels to a depth of 60 metres, creating impressive large chambers. The details about the levels and depth convey a concrete sense of the mine’s scale. The “Through the Triebisch Valleys” route also connects with the mining history: a detour to the main entrance of the Rothschönberg Tunnel is possible along the way. The main entrance is an impressive testament to the mining history and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Erzgebirge/Krušnohořà Mining Region”.
A Day at the Pool in Miltitz
Jahnbad Miltitz is located right in the Triebisch valley near Miltitz. It offers solar-heated pools, spacious sunbathing lawns and terraces, as well as sports facilities. Opening is seasonal and may vary, so check the current opening hours before your visit. This makes the outdoor pool a separate option to include in your trip plans, whether you are mainly interested in hiking trails, the landscape or historic sites.
