Architecture and Art
St. John’s Church was built in 1924 to a design by Dresden architect Bohlig, as an octagonal round building in the late Art Nouveau style. Its year of construction, architect, shape and style offer specific points of reference for viewing the building from an architectural history perspective. The factory owners’ villas are also local attractions; the Körse Hall is a listed building.
Galerie FLOX opened its gallery operation on June 29, 2013, in reconstructed rooms of the former sample office on the former industrial site “Friese.” It showcases contemporary art and has about 500 m² of exhibition space. This makes it one of the largest privately run galleries of its kind in Saxony in terms of space. Its program and opening arrangements may change; check visitor information in advance. The two dates refer to different milestones: 1924 marks the construction of St. John’s Church, while June 29, 2013, marks the start of the gallery’s operations. This distinction can help you plan your visit by separating the church’s architectural history from the Friese site’s later use as a gallery.
Körse Castle and the Landscape
Körse Castle lies southeast of Kirschau on Schlossberg, a granite outcrop surrounded by the River Spree. Its location and terrain give this destination a distinctive connection to the landscape. Local attractions also include the Körse Castle ruins, the castle museum and a model of the ruins. So, alongside the landscape, there are also castle-related themes to explore.
