Haselbachtal: Granite Heritage and Culture
Accommodation in Haselbachtal
Haselbachtal combines traces of the granite industry with parkland, historic buildings and open-air culture. When planning your stay, you can focus on different aspects: the demonstration site and the Granite Industry Museum explore the region’s working history, Bischheim Park combines Rococo design with water and old trees, and Reichenau Nature Stage offers a seasonal programme of events.
Granite Heritage and Landscapes in Häslich
The demonstration site and the Granite Industry Museum showcase machinery from the first half of the 20th century and document 200 years of the granite industry. A 1,100-metre-long trail runs around the Kesselbruch quarry. The history of work is also part of this story: at the height of local granite extraction and processing, up to 800 people worked in the granite quarries of Häslich.
The changing landscape reveals another side of granite quarrying. Former quarries in Häslich filled with water and became habitats or small bathing lakes. It is easy to consider this earlier use and transformation alongside the machinery and working history: one tells the story of extracting the stone, the other of how the quarry sites changed later on.
Bischheim Park: Paths, Ponds and Old Trees
Bischheim Park was created in the second half of the 18th century in the French Rococo style. The grounds cover around 5.6 hectares, including 1.4 hectares of ponds. Around 1,000 trees shape the park, many of them more than 200 years old. Water features and mature trees thus take centre stage alongside the historic design.
The gravel paths are ideal for walks. The park also has a landing stage for rowing boats, with boat trips available on specified days. If a boat trip is important to your visit, check the relevant dates in advance. Parking is available for visitors. The park offers different options depending on when you visit: boat trips run on specific days, while the paths offer another reason to spend time in the park.
Historic Sites and Visits by Arrangement
The Häslich four-sided farmstead is a protected historic property that remained in operation until 1973. Group tours featuring agricultural tools and machinery are available by prior arrangement. A light snack can also be arranged. Please confirm your visit and the services you would like in advance, as availability may change.
The Reichenau Local History Museum is housed in a former poorhouse built in 1845. The building’s former function places it in the context of local history and offers a different historical focus from the industrial history of Häslich.
Open-Air Theatre and Leisure Activities
Reichenau Nature Stage is an open-air theatre with 650 seats in a former quarry. The Reichenau-Pulsnitztal Nature Stage association was founded in 1992 by local theatre practitioners and residents. Open-air performances take place there from May to September; check the specific performance dates before your trip, as the season may change. The stage is an established part of the regional cultural scene and attracts around 6,000 to 9,000 visitors each year, although numbers may vary.
The designated car park is on Gräfenhainer Straße, beyond the bridge, about 300 metres from the stage. Before your visit, check whether the parking arrangements are still in effect for your event. When planning your time, it is helpful to note the difference between the two activities: the nature stage’s season runs from May to September, while boat trips in the park are available on specified days.
Haselbachtal’s leisure facilities also include the municipal Wiesengrund outdoor swimming pool. It has separate swimming and non-swimming areas, a paddling pool, a water slide, volleyball facilities and sunbathing lawns. Camping with Finnish huts is also available.
