Scenery, Hiking Trails and Viewpoints
Hiking trails reach Fuchsturm from various directions, including the Flöhatalweg from the Flöha Valley. The tower offers views over the Flöha Valley and the Hahnwiesen meadows opposite. It was built around 1870 by Julius Liedloff as a place of entertainment and was originally called Goldene Höhe; it later became known as Fuchsturm. The site thus combines a historical connection with a distinctive view of the landscape. If you would like to explore on foot, the municipality offers numerous other hiking trails and themed routes in addition to the paths to Fuchsturm.
The “Unterwegs im Flöhatal nach Oederan” cycling tour offers another way to explore the Flöha Valley. It begins and ends at Grünhainichen-Borstendorf station and follows the Flöhatal cycle route towards Oederan. The moderate tour is 32 kilometres long and takes around three hours; both the ascent and descent are 590 metres. Checking the current route before setting off will help you plan your tour, as the route and figures may change if it is revised.
For regional context, the Ore Mountains District has a signposted network of hiking trails covering around 4,500 kilometres.
Wooden Art and Craftsmanship
After Seiffen, Grunhainichen is considered the second most important centre for wooden toy making in the Ore Mountains. The Erzgebirgische Volkskunst Museum presents regional wooden art from the early 20th century to the present day. Exhibits include carved and turned figures, pyramids, miners, angels and wooden toys. A large toy shop and a doll’s house that children can play with round out the museum’s offerings.
The Wendt & KĂĽhn World presents the history and craft of the wooden figurine manufacturer based in Grunhainichen across three themed areas. A historical exhibition area features more than 600 figurative compositions. There are also demonstrations of hand-painted angels, flower children and music boxes. Visitors can also tour traditional workshops and wooden art makers. The outdoor music box was created by local craftspeople and arts-and-crafts workshops.
An early reference to woodworking dates back to 1579: a church register entry mentions a spoon maker. This entry is considered the oldest likely evidence of the manufacture of wooden goods in the Ore Mountains. A trade school for traditional woodworking was founded in Grunhainichen in 1879; a workshop building with an assembly hall was added in 1900. These dates mark distinct milestones in the local history of craftsmanship.

The different stations combine a variety of elements along the walk, allowing you to switch between activity, observation and puzzles as you go.
