If you are looking for a hotel in Klietz, you can use the area’s attractions as a guide when planning your trip: lakes, nature trails and traces of the past offer different focal points. Klietz is surrounded by fields, meadows and woodland. The Klietzer Heide is a popular destination for nature lovers and mushroom pickers. When choosing your stay, you can decide whether you want to spend most of your time by the water, observing nature or visiting a historical site.

Lakes and Wildlife Watching

Klietzer See lies in a former arm of the River Elbe. It is about 3.1 km long, 175 m wide and an average of 2 m deep. At Großer Klietzer See, a path leads to a bathing area with a playground and sunbathing lawn; Kleiner Klietzer See is considered a popular fishing lake. This offers different options: a path leading to a bathing area at the larger lake, and fishing and a nature trail at the smaller one.

From spring to autumn, bats can be watched near the bathing area in the evening and at night, and their calls can be heard with a detector. In spring, nesting swans and other waterbirds can be observed from the upper section of the path. Wildlife watching varies by season and time of day: waterbirds are a springtime attraction, while bats can be watched in the evenings and at night from spring through autumn.

Trails at Großer and Kleiner Klietzer See

The path around Großer Klietzer See circles the lake and passes through parts of Klietzer Forest. It starts and ends at Landgasthof Seeblick and is marked “Wandersmann.” The route follows an old railway embankment to a bathing area with a playground and sunbathing lawn. Numerous information boards along the path provide information about local plants and animals. Check the markings before setting out. The combination of a circular trail, nature information and a bathing area makes this path an attraction in its own right.

The nature trail at Kleiner Klietzer See is about 2.8 km long and also starts at Landgasthof Seeblick. Together with the lake, which is considered popular for fishing, it offers a different focus from the path at Großer Klietzer See: here, the nature trail and fishing are the main attractions; there, it is the circular route, information boards and bathing area. Both trails start at Landgasthof Seeblick; for the path at the larger lake, it is also the endpoint.

Traces of Klietz’s History

On the eastern shore of Kleiner Klietzer See lies the Klietzer Burgwall, where excavations are linked to the area’s Slavic origins. An information board at the rampart explains excavations at a Slavic fortification. The site of the rampart is still faintly visible in the meadow. The board and traces in the landscape offer both an archaeological context and a historical feature that can still be seen today.

The Klietzer Bockwindmühle is a restored technical monument. Visits are possible by prior arrangement. If you would like to include this historical attraction in your plans, remember to arrange your visit when planning your trip.

Cycling in the Wider Stendal Destination

The Altmark cycle circuit, about 500 km long, passes through Klietz and other places in Stendal district. The wider Stendal destination offers another scale for planning your trip: the local trails by the lake on the one hand, and the long-distance cycle route on the other.
