Kamern is shaped by water and open landscapes: lakes, forests, meadows, fields and sandy rises define the local scenery. In and around Kamern’s lake and Elbe-Havel landscape, you can cycle, hike, swim, fish and row. This offers different ways to plan your trip: activities on the water, routes through the surrounding area or viewpoints overlooking the lowlands.

Lakes, Waterways and Activities

The Kamernscher See is connected to the Havel via the Trübengraben. You can explore it by boat or walk around it on a circular trail. This offers two ways to explore: from the water and along the shore. The clear water is home to aquatic plants such as water soldier, pondweeds and frogbit. Exploring by boat, the circular trail and the lake’s ecology give it a character of its own.

The Schönfelder See is also part of the Kamernscher See area. Wooded shores and fish-rich waters characterize the lake landscape in the Untere Havel nature conservation area. It is considered suitable for hiking.

Landscape and Birdlife

Kamern lies among water, forests, meadows, fields and sandy rises. Alluvial forests, old river channels, small bodies of water and lakes also shape the surrounding area. These floodplain and waterside areas provide breeding and resting places for waterbirds. For visitors interested in nature, the role of the landscape as a habitat for waterbirds is another aspect to explore alongside the lakes. Open farmland, wooded shores and smaller bodies of water offer varied impressions of the landscape.

Viewpoints Between the Elbe and Havel

The Weinberge viewpoint offers a view west towards the Elbe lowlands; from Lärchenberg, the view is east towards the Havel lowlands. The Kamernschen Berge are a prominent local chain of hills. The two viewpoints therefore differ in the direction they face, while the Kamernschen Berge form a distinct ridge in the landscape. If you want to discover Kamern through its landforms, the lowlands and hills offer contrasting points of reference.

The Hedemicke and the Frau Harke Legend

At the entrance to Kamern stands the Hedemicke, a protected natural and historic pine stump associated with the Frau Harke legend. This natural monument connects a specific feature of the landscape with local folklore. For visitors interested in legends and local traditions, the Hedemicke offers a different perspective from the lakes, hikes and viewpoints.

Cycling in the District of Stendal

The approximately 500-kilometre Altmark circular cycling route passes through Kamern, among other places in the district of Stendal. The village is therefore part of a regional circular route that also passes through other towns in the district.

Stendal as the Wider Travel Destination

Cultural and historical topics also feature in the wider travel destination of Stendal. Tangermünde Castle served as a secondary residence of Emperor Charles IV, alongside Hradčany in Prague, from 1373 to 1378. In Stendal itself, Uenglinger Tor is a surviving part of the former town fortifications and offers panoramic views over the town and its surroundings. Tangermünder Tor is considered the oldest town gate in northeastern Germany. Tangermünde is considered a tourist attraction, with a fascinating town skyline and a very well-preserved medieval town centre.
