Wolmirsleben is associated with leisure activities at the Großer Schachtsee, fishing at several small lakes and cycling along the Bode towards Staßfurt. There are also two local sights: the churches of St. Nicolai and St. Johannis Baptist. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on waterside leisure, fishing, cycling or a cultural attraction.

Leisure activities at the Schachtsee and along the Bode

The Großer Schachtsee is associated with leisure activities, and several small lakes offer opportunities for fishing. If you are planning to use a particular facility at the Schachtsee during your stay, check its current status in advance.

A cycle path follows the Bode from Wolmirsleben towards Staßfurt. Check the exact surface and current condition of the route before setting out. This way, you can keep in mind both the route and the two practical details that matter when planning a specific cycling trip.

Cycling routes in the wider Salzlandkreis destination

The 3-Flüsse-Radweg is a circular day trip of around 36 kilometres between Ilberstedt and Hohenerxleben. It follows the Bode, Saale and Wipper rivers. In the central part of the Salzlandkreis, the route passes through river landscapes with forests and meadows, as well as elevated farmland with wide-ranging views.

The Boderadweg crosses the Salzlandkreis for about 51 kilometres, passing through floodplain landscapes, historic towns and charming villages. The Saaleradweg runs through the Salzlandkreis between Rothenburg in the Saalekreis and Barby; here, it takes you through a peaceful riverside landscape of woodland and meadows. The wider destination therefore offers a choice of distinct regional themes, with different river and landscape routes.

A shorter route is the approximately two-kilometre nature trail in the floodplain woodland complex. It follows the Saale below Plötzkau Castle.

Culture in the wider Salzlandkreis destination

The Romanesque Road has six stops in five towns in the Salzlandkreis. Another archaeological destination is the Ringheiligtum Pömmelte, a reconstruction of a ritual site more than 4,000 years old. The 115-metre-wide site comprises wooden palisade rings, pits and ramparts; it can be viewed from a nine-metre-high observation platform. The Ringheiligtum is open to visitors free of charge all year, except during certain events. Free parking and accessible toilets are available. Before your visit, check whether an event will affect access.

The Stadt- und Bergbaumuseum in Staßfurt covers the town’s history, as well as salt production by boiling and the potash industry. The Wasserburg Egeln houses a museum of prehistory and early history. Castle festivals, markets and cultural events are held there regularly; check individual dates separately. Plötzkau Castle has a museum covering a range of subjects across several rooms and the tower. If you would like to visit churches or museums inside, check current visiting arrangements in advance.
