Discover Staudt: Energy Trail, Activity Park and Local History
Accommodation in Staudt
Staudt brings together energy topics, landscape and local history—three different starting points for planning a stay. Small volcanic cones and hills rise from a basin filled mostly with soft Tertiary clay. Clay also shapes the area’s cultural identity: Staudt is part of the Kannenbäckerland cultural landscape, whose clay pits are associated with the region’s “white gold.” If you are looking for a hotel in Staudt, these themes can help you refine your choice of destination: would you like to explore energy-related attractions, spend time outdoors or include local history? You can consider these different focuses alongside one another when planning your stay.
Landscape and Surroundings
Staudt’s landscape includes small volcanic cones and hills rising from a basin containing mostly soft Tertiary clay. Nearby is Malberg, a 422-metre-high phonolite cone and the highest point of the Montabaur Basin. Natural forests, rocks and boulder fields characterise Malberg. The surroundings therefore offer contrasting natural landscapes: a wooded, rocky rise and Staudt’s landscape shaped by clay and hilltops.
Staudt Energy Trail
The Staudt Energy Trail explores energy sources and how they are used at several information points; the Energiewelt Staudt is a highlight in the town centre. The trail is 8.7 kilometres long and has 19 marked stations with punches for a map activity. Quiz questions are accessed via QR codes. The route length helps you gauge the scale of the outing, while the stations and activities provide its thematic focus. Parking for the Energy Trail is available in the town centre on Hauptstraße 21. Route details, signage, facilities, QR-code content and technology may change, so check for current information before setting off.
Activity Park and Visitor Attraction
The almost two-hectare Erbsengarten Activity Park was created from a former clay pit and is designated a landscape conservation area. Its facilities include open lawns, a cage soccer area, picnic and barbecue areas, outdoor fitness equipment, a dirt-bike track and a bouldering tower. The park combines sports and exercise facilities with areas for relaxing.
The Renewable Energy Experience World is a visitor park of around 2,400 square metres in Staudt. Information boards cover energy topics, and the park also features a water playground on the Aubach, other play equipment, a quiet area and an information centre for presentations and experiments. Unlike Erbsengarten, the Experience World combines learning with play and relaxation areas. The two facilities therefore offer different ways to spend time outdoors.
Church and Leisure
The Old Church of Staudt was built as a chapel in 1865 and extended in 1922/23. After the new church was completed, it was used for storage; in the late 1980s, it was listed as a protected monument. Its history thus spans several phases, from its original construction as a chapel through its extension to its later use.
Another leisure option is the Staudt skate park. Its features include a coping ramp, a curb, a small funbox and coping. The facility complements the themed route and parks with a specific opportunity for exercise, without requiring a particular reason for your trip.
Getting There
Staudt is close to the A3 and B255 motorways. Montabaur ICE station is about two kilometres away. Check current train connections and road conditions separately. If you plan to visit the Energy Trail, also check local parking arrangements in the town centre before travelling.
