Daubach – Hiking and Nature
Accommodation in Daubach
For a stay in Daubach, a moderate circular trail, a tree trail and a seasonal village café offer specific ways to explore the area. Those interested in hiking and nature can choose between a longer tour, an educational nature trail and a place to stop for refreshments at certain times of the year.
Hiking around Daubach
The moderate “Rund um den Apfelstein” circular trail is 11.1 kilometres long and takes around three hours. You can start or finish the circuit at the village square. Before setting out, check trail conditions and access information.
The route offers views above Daubach towards Höchst and passes through the protected Stelzenbach meadows and woodland. The Stelzenbach stream and Erbenmühle are also part of the route. The circuit therefore includes both scenic stretches and a viewpoint; its individual stops offer different impressions without changing the trail’s moderate difficulty.
A tree trail as a separate nature focus
Daubach also has a tree trail that introduces the trees of the year. Here, the focus is on learning about these trees, while the Apfelstein circular trail offers a different kind of hike, defined by its length, approximate duration and varied landscapes. Visitors looking for nature-related activities during their stay can therefore consider these as different ways to discover the surroundings and their plant life.
Getting there and seasonal refreshments
Daubach can be reached from Montabaur via the VRM network and bus route 458. Free parking is available for drivers at the village square, near the exit in the direction of Horbach. As bus services and parking rules may change, check the details before you set off. The village square can also serve as the starting point or endpoint of the Apfelstein circuit.
The seasonal village café at or near the Heimathaus serves homemade cake, coffee, tea or cocoa, cold non-alcoholic drinks and ice cream. It is open on Sundays and public holidays from 1 May to 3 October, from 2 to 5 pm. If you plan to visit the café, check its seasonal opening hours for the year of your trip.
More hiking and nature topics in the Westerwald
The wider Westerwald destination offers other independent hiking options. The WesterwaldSteig is a 235-kilometre long-distance hiking trail through the Westerwald, with 16 stages. The Druidensteig runs for 94 kilometres in seven daily stages through seven river valleys and features more than 30 geo-information points. Their stages provide a framework for multi-day hikes; the Druidensteig also adds geological information points as a further theme. Check the latest route plans before setting out.
The wider Westerwald destination also offers other topics for nature and geology enthusiasts: Stöffel-Park is a former basalt quarry covering around 140 hectares, where industrial heritage, geological history and nature come together. The TERTIÄRUM at Stöffel-Park displays fossils, including the famous “Stöffel mouse”. The fossils document around 25 million years of geological history. The Westerwald therefore offers everything from hiking trails to insights into geology and industrial heritage.
