Discover Dreifelden
Accommodation in Dreifelden
For your stay in Dreifelden, you can focus on two specific topics: the historic Trinity Church and the Dreifelder Weiher, beside which the town is located. These offer different points of interest: local history and architecture on the one hand, and landscape and hiking on the other. The following details can help you plan your stay around these interests and your intended walking distance, then search for a hotel in Dreifelden.
Trinity Church and Local History
The central Protestant Trinity Church stands in the town center and is a historic former pilgrimage church. Its origins date back to the early Romanesque period around the year 1000; the church was first mentioned in a document in 1319. The two dates refer to different milestones: its early origins and the first documentary record. The Trinity Church gave Dreifelden its name. The fortified tower has five loopholes; the church is considered one of the oldest in the Westerwald. Building history, the former pilgrimage tradition and the town’s name come together here as historical themes.
Dreifelder Weiher and Landscape
Dreifelden lies beside the Dreifelder Weiher, the largest lake in the Westerwälder Seenplatte lake district. The Dreifelder Weiher nature reserve protects water areas, shallow-water zones, marshes and adjacent wet grassland. The Dreifelder Weiherland landscape is a gently rolling plateau at an elevation of 430 to 450 meters above sea level. Its landscape features therefore range from water and wetlands to the higher-lying, gently undulating plateau.
Hiking Trails and Practical Information
The 7-Weiher-Weg is divided into sections of approximately 13 km and 17.5 km. The shorter section is around 13 km, and the longer one about 17.5 km, giving you two specific options for comparing the route distances. At the Dreifelder Weiher, you can watch waterbirds along the trail. The route includes 16 information boards at selected locations in the Westerwälder Seenplatte lake district. It also passes through the Wölferlinger Weiher nature reserve and climbs the 463-meter-high Schwengersberg, which offers a view. After the Dreifelder Weiher, the trail reaches the Steinen-Dreifelden forest playground.
The route for the Romantische Seenplatte starts at the hiking car park by the cemetery in Dreifelden. Parking is available there free of charge. As parking regulations may change, check them before setting out.
In the Wider Westerwald Destination
The wider Westerwald destination offers further hiking and cultural attractions. The WesterwaldSteig is a 235-kilometer long-distance hiking trail with 16 stages. If you include it in your plans, check the current route planner before setting out. Stöffel-Park is a former basalt quarry site of around 140 hectares in the Westerwald, combining industrial heritage, geological history and nature. The TERTIÄRUM at Stöffel-Park displays fossils, including the famous “Stöffel mouse”; the exhibition documents around 25 million years of geological history. The Westerwälder Seenplatte also includes a natural area with seven ponds.
