Discover Hermeskeil
Accommodation in Hermeskeil
Hermeskeil brings together art in public spaces, museums with a range of themes, and paths through nature. When planning your stay, you can choose between city walks, exhibitions and routes of varying lengths. Before looking for a hotel in Hermeskeil, consider whether culture, nature or a particular route should shape your stay.
Public Art and Museums
Three sculpture trails lead to numerous sights around the town. These include fountains, the former Franciscan monastery, cemeteries, monuments, sundials, Stolpersteine memorial stones and other public artworks. Together, the walks bring different forms of art and remembrance into the public spaces of the town.
The “People and Landscape” experience museum uses an interactive exhibition to explain the nature, landscapes, and animal and plant life of Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. The Hermeskeil Steam Locomotive Museum has six locomotives in its engine shed; the museum displays additional locomotives on the site of the former railway depot. The Fire Brigade Museum explores the development of firefighting, from simple methods to modern fire-suppression technology, and presents both historic and modern fire engines.
The Flugausstellung Junior offers a different focus: more than 100 original aircraft are on display outdoors and in the hangars. The exhibition also includes a Concorde with 150 seats and a café. Check access to the café and visitor arrangements before your visit.
Nature Paths and Hiking Routes
Hermeskeil is home to the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park information center. The Hermeskeil nature discovery trail also focuses on nature: the 2.2-kilometer circular route starts in the Im Pflanzgarten recreation area. Information about forest animals and plants, along with stations for hands-on nature experiences, accompanies the trail.
Experience a different forest and waterside landscape on the Hermeskeil HK5 circular trail. The route passes through the Lösterbach valley, follows the Lösterbach stream and winds through dense forest. For longer hikes, five Dream Loops run through the Hermeskeil collective municipality. These routes mostly follow narrow nature paths beside streams and rock formations, leading to viewpoints and natural and cultural monuments.
The HW-39-13 stage also offers a clearly specified route option: it runs from Hermeskeil to Reinsfeld and is 16.3 kilometers long. It starts at St. Martin's parish church on Martinusstraße. Information boards along the stage focus on the life of Saint Martin. By comparison, the nature discovery trail is a much shorter 2.2-kilometer circular route; the stage and the loop also differ in format.
For a city walk, there is a guided tour of Hermeskeil featuring stories about special places. The family rally through Hermeskeil is planned as a circular tour lasting about two hours. It can be adapted for strollers or wheelchairs if St. Fargeau Park is left out. This adaptation depends on the specified route change.
Another walk leads to Meister Bockart Castle. Along the way, there is information about beavers and nature, and breaks are planned at the Forstelbach stream. The possible excursions therefore offer different experiences: one route focuses on information about the stream and nature, while the guided city walk features stories about special places.
