Devil’s Table and Adventure Park
The Devil’s Table near Hinterweidenthal is a 14-metre-high, mushroom-shaped rock in the southern Palatinate Forest. It formed around 250 million years ago from layers of sandstone. Its unusual shape and geological origins give the place a distinctive connection to the landscape. If you’re also interested in the wider region, the Palatinate Forest shapes the landscape throughout the larger Südwestpfalz area. Well-developed, waymarked trails wind through dense forests, over gentle hills and past impressive red sandstone cliffs.
The Devil’s Table Adventure Park is located directly below the rock. Its facilities include a 50-metre-long giant slide and a cableway. At the water playground, visitors can pump, dam and channel water; there is also a picnic area. Accessible parking spaces and toilets are available. Visitors with mobility or visual impairments can also enjoy much of the park. As the condition and operation of individual facilities may change, check current access and availability before your visit.
Planet Trail and cycling tours
The Planet Trail runs from Hinterweidenthal through Dahn to Bruchweiler-Bärenbach and is around 12 kilometres long. Information boards about the planets are displayed along the way. The trail thus combines a specific route with an astronomical theme. If you’re interested in the planets, the boards provide points of interest along the way. The trail is open year-round; weather and trail conditions may affect your visit. Take these conditions into account when planning.
Hinterweidenthal is also a starting point for cycling tours. The routes follow well-marked cycle paths, including routes into neighbouring Alsace. Markings and route availability may change. So if you want to ride a specific route, check the latest route information before setting off. The Planet Trail and cycle paths offer different ways to build your stay around a specific route.
Railway and regional cuisine
The Wieslauter Railway connects Hinterweidenthal with Bundenthal-Rumbach. Its route runs through the Wieslauter valley, passing sandstone formations and dense forests. The Hinterweidenthal Ort stop serves the town centre. If you’re planning to use the railway for your trip, check the latest timetable in advance. This lets you consider the train journey as a separate point of orientation alongside the trails and adventure park.
At the foot of the Devil’s Table in Hinterweidenthal are the brewery and restaurant of Brauhaus Ehrstein. The beer is brewed by hand with regional ingredients in accordance with the German Beer Purity Law of 1516. The menu includes 25 Flammkuchen specialities; as the menu may change, it’s a good idea to check the current selection before visiting. This dining spot adds another dimension to the town’s natural and active attractions.
