Weiler bei Bingen is situated on the heights above the Nahe’s confluence with the Rhine, at the foot of the Hunsrück and about two kilometres from Bingen. When planning your trip, the combination of village paths, wine country and hiking destinations in the Binger Wald is particularly appealing. Two hiking trails start at the village square and offer views towards the Hunsrück, Nahe and Rhine. The Binger Wald Adventure Trail, by contrast, is a 4.5-kilometre circular route. There is also a path through the village that leads to carved works of art.

Landscape between vineyards and forest

Weiler lies on a plateau: fields and meadows stretch to the north and west, while extensive vineyards lie to the east. Around 2,000 hectares of the Binger Wald are within Weiler’s municipal boundaries. Open spaces and forest thus both shape the landscape. Weiler produces wines that belong to the Nahe wine-growing region, so wine is also part of local agriculture. Hiking options in Weiler also include forest inns, shelters and hiking huts. These different landscape and village features can help you decide whether to focus your stay on vineyards, forest or paths through the village.

Hiking trails and viewpoints

The village square is a useful landmark for setting out on foot. Two hiking trails start there, with views towards the HunsrĂĽck, Nahe and Rhine. Another walk leads through the village to carved works of art. The Rhein-Nahe Loop is characterised by vineyards, sweeping views in every direction and resting places at scenic spots. You can therefore choose between trails starting at the village square and a route featuring vineyards and viewpoints. A car park at the village square provides access to the Rhein-Nahe Loop. Weiler Mitte bus stop is about 50 metres from the village square. Check the current timetable before travelling and, if arriving by car, check the parking situation.

Adventure trails in the Binger Wald

The Steckeschlääferklamm runs alongside and over the Haselbach; wooden bridges and carved faces are distinctive features of this adventure trail. The path has steps and narrow sections and is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchair users. Check the trail conditions before your visit. The Binger Wald Adventure Trail has different features: this 4.5-kilometre circular route through the Binger Wald includes a Roman villa rustica and a suspension bridge over a ravine. It can be reached via several forest and hiking trails as well as two paved access roads. Official car parks are located at Bodmannstein and Forsthaus Heilig Kreuz. When comparing the two adventure trails, the route conditions and access are important differences: the Steckeschlääferklamm has the restrictions noted above, while the length, circular route and car parks are specified for the Binger Wald Adventure Trail.

Village festival and local remembrance

The annual village festival takes place in September and lasts three days. Music, food and drink, tradition and community activities are at its heart, with the village square becoming the centre of the celebrations. If you would like to include the festival in your stay, check the exact dates. Another local detail is a cross on the outside wall of the church at the intersection of KirchstraĂźe and HildegardisstraĂźe. It was installed in the late 19th century in remembrance of a parish mission. Together, the festival and the cross reflect two different aspects of the village: a community event in September and a historic memorial in the village landscape.
