Schopp: Hiking, mountain biking, and forest trails
Accommodation in Schopp
Schopp offers travelers several specific points of interest to help plan their trip: an extensive hiking trail network, the start of a stage of the Pfälzer Waldpfad, and an access point to the Pfälzerwald mountain bike park. Equestrian sports, a long-standing cycling race, and the old waterworks also help define the town. If you are looking for a hotel, you can start by considering which of these themes matter most for your stay.
Forest and hiking trail network
The municipality owns about 800 hectares of forest. Schopp has more than 50 kilometers of marked hiking trails; the Schopper Wald also has a well-developed network of trails for hiking and horseback riding. Schopp’s trails are part of the Holzland hiking trails of the Palatinate Forest Association and also belong to the West Palatinate hiking trails, a regional trail network.
The Pfälzer Waldpfad and mountain bike routes
The first stage of the Pfälzer Waldpfad begins at the train station in Schopp and leads from there to Johanniskreuz. It is 15.3 kilometers long. Along the way, after a small forest pond, you reach the “Moosalbsprung” spring, a pleasant place to stop briefly. Near Schopp, the stage also follows the Moosalbe through the Karlstal Gorge.
Schopp is also a named starting point for mountain bikers: the town is an access point to the Pfälzerwald mountain bike park, and Route 3 begins at the train station. Schopp has also hosted the German Cross-Country Championships three times. These events provide a historical connection to cycling in addition to the routes described.
Train station and Pentecost race
Schopp is a train station on the Kaiserslautern–Pirmasens line. The station is also the starting point for the first stage of the Pfälzer Waldpfad and for Route 3 of the mountain bike park. If you would like to include rail travel in your journey or plan an excursion, check the current departure times in the timetable.
Another connection to sport is the Pentecost race at the velodrome in Schopp’s Eichwald Stadium. It has been held there for more than 50 years. If the race is relevant to your stay, check the dates for the year in question. Unlike the hiking and cycling trails described as permanent features, an event date provides a specific timeframe for travel planning.
The old waterworks
Schopp’s old waterworks are part of the town’s cultural and technological heritage. They have been lovingly renovated, and the old water pump is still in working order. Alongside forest trails and cycling, the preserved pump and this piece of technological heritage help give a sense of the town. Together with the trails, the stage starting point at the train station, and the Pentecost race, they offer a varied picture of Schopp to help guide your hotel search and plans for your stay.
