Neurath can be included in your route planning via several hiking and cycling routes. These include the “Wilder Islek” circular hiking trail, which passes through the village, the “In the Footsteps of the Bobbin Lace Makers” hike and a cycling tour along the Enz Cycle Route to the Arzfeld Reservoir. The route, viewpoints and tour details provide different points of reference when choosing a tour.

Hiking the “Wilder Islek”

The South Eifel Nature Park hiking trail No. 15, “Wilder Islek,” is 16.1 kilometres long, rated moderate and listed as taking 4 hours and 25 minutes. It starts and ends in Arzfeld and passes through Neurath. The route passes the Arzfeld Reservoir, descends into the valley to Irrhausen and then follows the Holmicht stream upstream back to Arzfeld. Highlights include the reservoir and the “Valley of Butterflies,” with a small waterfall.

The circular route, distance, difficulty level and duration give the “Wilder Islek” a clear framework for planning your tour. The “In the Footsteps of the Bobbin Lace Makers” circular hike has a different focus: it reaches the reservoir near Neurath and offers distant views above Neurath and Windhausen. If you are choosing a route based on a specified time frame, the duration of the “Wilder Islek” is helpful; if viewpoints matter to your choice of route, the distant views on this hike offer a different point of reference.

Take a break at the Arzfeld Reservoir

The Arzfeld Reservoir has a sunbathing lawn and a picnic area. The lake is also a starting point for hikes and part of the “Wilder Islek.” This makes it both a specific place to take a break and a point of interest for hikers. Swimming and fishing are not permitted in the reservoir.

Cycle to the Arzfeld Reservoir

The reservoir is also a landmark for cyclists. The “Around Arzfeld1” cycling tour follows the Enz Cycle Route through Neurath to the Arzfeld Reservoir; at kilometre 31.2, the lake is a rest stop along the route. This brings together a specific stretch of the Enz Cycle Route and a named rest stop. In contrast to the “Wilder Islek,” whose circular route passes through Irrhausen and follows the Holmicht stream, this is a different route to the reservoir. You can therefore distinguish between the two tours by their routes and the respective landmarks mentioned.
