Pünderich combines paths along the Moselle with a historic town center and wine-related attractions. The Moselle promenade, with its broad meadows and walnut avenues, offers space for relaxation and outdoor activities. This makes for a travel experience that blends riverside scenery, activity and local history without limiting your stay to just one focus.

Moselle Promenade, Cycle Path and Ferry

In Pünderich, you can explore a largely car-free stretch of the Moselle on foot or by bicycle. If you are cycling, you can follow the Moselle Cycle Route: from Briedel, it continues along the river to Pünderich. Check local conditions before setting out on a bike ride. For cyclists on the Moselle Cycle Route, the historic town center, with its restored half-timbered houses, provides a picturesque setting for a stop in Pünderich.

The Moselle ferry connects the two riverbanks and provides access toward the Kanonenbahn cultural trail between Bullay and Reil. A canoe landing is located right next to the ferry. If you plan to use these facilities, check local notices before your visit; it is also advisable to check the current timetable for the ferry crossing.

Half-Timbered Houses and Architectural History

The historic town center contains many carefully restored half-timbered houses that are several centuries old. A walk through the center reveals the development of half-timbered construction from the early 16th to the late 18th century. The houses are therefore more than a cohesive historic townscape: their different construction dates also make its evolution over time visible.

At the ferry landing, the Old Ferry House, dating from 1621, and the Old Town Hall, dating from 1548, form a remarkable ensemble. Both dates help put the town’s architectural history into more concrete context. Another historic landmark is the Pünderich hillside viaduct: built between 1876 and 1880, it has 97 arches and is one of the longest hillside viaducts in Europe.

Wine and Scenery

The Pünderich wine trail combines information about wine with insights into local history. Its 26 information boards cover grape varieties, winegrowing and the town’s history. There are rest areas and views over the Moselle Valley along the trail, bringing together explanatory information and scenic impressions rather than considering winegrowing solely through its products.

The vines at the Burger winery grow mainly on steep slopes, where the conditions suit Riesling. The winery’s wine tavern serves Moselle wines with food. The winery offers tastings for groups of around 40 people. As offers and booking conditions may change, contact the winery directly before visiting to find out about the current conditions.
