Landkern: Forests, Trails and St. Servatius

Landkern combines a forested setting with local history and a variety of destinations for excursions. When choosing where to stay, the main considerations are the landscape, trails through valleys and the architectural history of St. Servatius parish church. Forests, the Moselle Valley and views

The destinations offer different highlights: Zickelslei is known for its views, while the route to Göbelsmühle showcases the stream and mills.

St. Servatius and local history

St. Servatius Catholic parish church was consecrated on July 22, 1862. The Cologne architect Vinzenz Statz designed it in the Neo-Gothic style. The organ still in use today was also installed in 1862. A chapel in Landkern, already dedicated to St. Servatius, was first mentioned in 1511. These three dates provide a clear chronology for the building’s history: the chapel’s dedication to the saint is documented earlier, while the consecration and organ date to the same year.

The area’s agricultural past is also part of its character: numerous farmsteads preserve traces of it in Landkern’s present-day townscape. Together with the parish church, they offer a different way to explore the town than the viewpoints and trails in the surrounding area.

Getting here and places to stay

By train, Landkern is accessible via Cochem station, about seven kilometres away. The station is on the Koblenz–Trier–Luxembourg line. Check the current timetable for specific train connections. By car, take the A48, about five kilometres away; the connection to the A61 is via the Koblenz junction.

The castle’s Neo-Gothic design can thus be explored as a regional cultural theme, while St. Servatius is central to Landkern’s local history.
