For planning your trip to Herbram, the hiking trail, landscape and history each offer a different focus. The Hermannshöhen access trail: Herbram runs from Neueheerser Straße to the Eggeweg in Herbram-Wald. Two protected landscape features lie north of the village, and written records of Herbram date back to the late 13th century. You can therefore choose the focus of your stay according to whether you are most interested in the hiking connection, the landscape or historical themes.

Hiking and Getting There

The Hermannshöhen access trail: Herbram starts at Neueheerser Straße and joins the Eggeweg in Herbram-Wald. This clearly identifies the trail’s start and connection: it runs from the road into the village district, where it meets the Eggeweg. If you would like to include a hike in your trip, this route provides a specific point of reference for your planning.

A bus connection is also available: route 484 runs from Lichtenau town centre towards Paderborn Hbf and stops at Li-Herbram, Post. From there, it is about a five-minute walk to Neueheerser StraĂźe. If you plan to use this connection to get there, check the timetable for your travel date, as journey times may change.

Protected Landscape North of Herbram

The protected landscape feature “Orchard and Shrub Complex North of Herbram” consists of 16 fruit trees. They are partly interspersed with shrubs and surrounded by hedges. The name thus describes a landscape where fruit trees, shrubs and hedges belong together.

Another landscape feature is the protected landscape feature “Emderbach Valley with Spring”. It encompasses a spring area and about 900 metres of the northern section of the Emderbach, in and south of Emder Forest, north of Herbram. These two landscape features therefore have different elements at their centre: fruit trees and hedges in one, a spring and stream in the other. Nature enthusiasts can thus distinguish a small orchard area from a longer landscape section centred on a stream.

Local History and Spring Festival

Written records of Herbram date back to the late 13th century. An important historical landmark is St. John the Baptist Church. Its construction dates back to a building project approved in 1482 by Prince-Bishop Simon III of Paderborn. On 28 June 1959, the church was solemnly consecrated by Archbishop Dr. Lorenz Jäger. The two dates refer to different events: approval for the construction of a church and its later consecration.

The annual Spring Festival is part of the local calendar, when a maypole is erected in Herbram’s village square. If the festival is important to your choice of dates, check the date for your chosen year in advance.
