For a trip to Lückerath, memorial sites or cultural attractions in the wider destination of Bergisch Gladbach can be the focus. When looking for a hotel, it helps to first consider which of these interests matter for your stay.

Green spaces and paths at Fürstenbrünnchen

The Am Fürstenbrünnchen park is characterised by orchards and wooded areas. It also includes paths and benches. This brings together vegetation and designed features for spending time outdoors. Check the condition of the paths and benches before your visit.

A section of the Milchbornbach, also known as the Saaler Mühlenbach, runs parallel to Am Fürstenbrünnchen street. For a short stretch, the stream flows naturally through a beech grove.

Memorial sites and local history

The Lückerath war memorial is listed in the City of Bergisch Gladbach’s register of listed monuments under reference number 05378004-A0158. The year 1859 is given; it was added to the register on 25 March 1998. This places a historical date alongside the later date on which it was entered in the register.

The history of the Lückerath memorial begins with a wayside cross erected in 1859 at the intersection of Lückerather Weg and Am Fürstenbrünnchen. It was expanded into a memorial to the men of Lückerath who fell in the First World War. Two wings made of red sandstone bear the names of 15 fallen soldiers. The memorial was later moved to its present location and inaugurated there on 3 June 1972. The sequence of the wayside cross, its expansion and its relocation gives the memorial site a clearly traceable history.

Lückerather Anger is next to the Im Pützchen housing development. It was created in 2002 from improved arable land and a meadow. The Heiliges Pützchen, also called the Heiliges Brünnchen, has been permanently sealed since 1921: its water was contaminated with heavy metals and was therefore no longer suitable for drinking. This restriction is important for travel planning; the spring is not a source of drinking water.
