Hiking trails through the daffodil landscape

In the upper Olef Valley near Hollerath, two signposted circular trails pass through meadows of wild yellow daffodils. Both start at the Hollerather Knie car park on the B265 and can be explored independently or with an expert guide. As circular trails, they return to their shared starting point. When planning, two specific details are therefore clear: the same starting point and the choice between finding your own way and a guided exploration.

Flowering season and trip planning

The daffodil meadows are in the North Eifel Nature Park. They bloom each year approximately from late March to early May, depending on the weather. If the daffodils are the reason for your trip, use this time span as a seasonal guide, not as a fixed date for a particular day.

Trail diversions

A diversion is currently signposted for the red route. This is due to construction work at the wind farm, planned from March 2026 until April 2028. If you want to hike this route, take note of the notice and check the route before setting out. The diversion notice applies to the red route, so consider this information in relation to this specific trail plan.

Route III is also diverted in the Hollerath area because of the wind farm construction work. Route III focuses on geology and mining history. When choosing a theme, the seasonal daffodil landscape and the geological and mining focus therefore offer distinct alternatives. Construction work on Route III is scheduled from February 2026 until spring 2028; for the red route, it is scheduled from March 2026 until around April 2028. The time periods are similar but differ in their start and expected end dates. Check the Route III diversion again after spring 2028.

The hiking trail network in Hellenthal

Hellenthal has more than 220 km of signposted hiking trails. This figure describes the wider trail network, not the length of the two circular trails near Hollerath. For a visit to the daffodil meadows, the two named trails are therefore the more specific guide: they share a starting point at Hollerather Knie, while the total distance indicates the scale of hiking available in Hellenthal. When choosing a specific hike, the signposted circular trail and the relevant diversion notice are therefore more informative than the total number of kilometres.

This gives you three separate questions to answer when planning your trip: when you would like to see the seasonal daffodil bloom, whether you want to hike the circular trails independently or with a guide, and which diversion applies to the specific trail you choose. The flowering season depends on the weather; the trail notices refer to named routes and construction periods. Hollerath thus combines seasonal nature watching with clear local hiking guidance.
