Redefin: State Stud, Stud Farm Trail and Village Church
Accommodation in Redefin
Redefin offers three specific themes to consider when planning your trip: the Mecklenburg State Stud, the Stud Farm Trail and the village church. They showcase different sides of the place—from guided tours and carriage rides to a route around 170 kilometres long and Neo-Gothic church architecture. Which aspects matter most when choosing a hotel depends on whether you want to focus on a tour or carriage ride at the stud, the Stud Farm Trail, or architectural and cultural history.
Redefin State Stud: tours, carriage rides and concerts
Advance registration is required for guided tours of the Redefin State Stud. A guided tour of the historic grounds takes about 120 minutes. Carriage rides at the state stud last about an hour and start and end at the entrance to the Landstallmeisterhaus (Master of the Horse’s House). This gives you two programme options of different lengths: a tour of the historic grounds and a carriage ride. Before your trip, check the latest information about registration and booking availability; availability for carriage rides may change, as may operational details of the tour.
Another attraction is the riding arena with its historic portal at the Redefin State Stud. During the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, it becomes a concert hall twice each festival summer. If you would like to plan your trip around a concert, check the programme for the relevant festival summer.
The Stud Farm Trail: a longer route starting in Redefin
The Stud Farm Trail starts at the Mecklenburg State Stud in Redefin and runs to the Brandenburg Main and State Stud in Neustadt (Dosse); the route covers around 170 kilometres. Clearly signposted, it passes through varied landscapes between the Griesen Gegend, the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Flusslandschaft Elbe-Brandenburg in the Prignitz and the Westhavelland. Redefin is therefore the starting point for a route on a very different scale from a single activity at the stud.
If you include the Stud Farm Trail in your plans, keep the total distance and route conditions in mind. Route conditions may vary. The approximate length gives you an idea of the scale of the route, not an exact measurement. The route passes through several named landscape areas, making the trail a destination in its own right alongside the sights in Redefin.
Redefin Village Church: Neo-Gothic architecture and organ
Redefin Village Church was built between 1843 and 1847 as a Neo-Gothic brick building with a central tower. Its furnishings from the early Neo-Gothic period have been almost entirely preserved. The church also houses Mecklenburg’s oldest organ. The church brings together several aspects of cultural history: its construction period, brickwork and tower on the one hand, and its organ and furnishings on the other. This gives the village church a distinct character alongside the state stud and the Stud Farm Trail.
Another cultural highlight in the wider destination of Ludwigslust-Parchim
In the wider destination of Ludwigslust-Parchim, Ludwigslust Palace offers a distinct cultural highlight shaped by court life. It was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg and, together with its park and town, forms an ensemble known as the “Little Versailles of the North”. The palace is the centrepiece of an almost entirely preserved late Baroque townscape with a former court church and an English-style landscape park. The palace presents the art and courtly domestic culture of the 18th and early 19th centuries. It therefore offers a different historical focus from Redefin, with its state stud, Stud Farm Trail and village church.
