Bresegard bei Picher: Nature Trail, Farm Garden and Farm Life
Accommodation in Bresegard bei Picher
Hof Birkenkamp is an excellent way to explore Bresegard bei Picher: its nature trail, garden, farm shop and guided animal walks bring together a range of different themes. If you are planning a stay, you can choose between a self-guided walk, guided activities and insights into the history of the garden and farm.
Nature Trail and Animal Walks
The nature trail at Hof Birkenkamp is a self-guided circular route with 20 stations at present. They focus on nature, the seasons and the history of the farm; the number of stations may grow. Bringing these themes together offers several perspectives along the route, without limiting it to a single subject. One section of the trail is dedicated to the Elven Trail around a protected aquatic habitat.
Hof Birkenkamp offers thoughtfully guided alpaca walks and thoughtfully guided cow walks. The two activities differ first of all in the type of animal; unlike the self-guided circular route, they are guided. Check the current booking arrangements before making plans, as these may change.
Nature Garden, Farm Shop and Courses
Jennifer Dietel’s nature garden with alpacas was newly laid out from 2017 on the grounds of a nearly 200-year-old Büdnerei (smallholder’s cottage). The garden includes wild areas, perennial beds, old English roses, herbs and a small kitchen garden. Open spaces for relaxing, retreats for people and animals, and plenty of room for nature to grow freely shape the grounds. Please check whether the garden is currently open to visitors before your visit. Designed flower beds and deliberately wild areas sit side by side.
The farm shop sells fresh eggs from the farm’s own hens, as well as a selection of handcrafted products made on site and sourced from the region. Hof Birkenkamp also offers workshops and seminars on arts and crafts and environmental education. The range of topics here therefore extends from nature experiences, gardening and farm products to craft and environmental subjects.
Getting There and Regional Culture
Hof Birkenkamp can be reached by car via the A24, A14 and B5; road conditions may change. For rail travel, an ICE connection runs to Ludwigslust. Check the current timetables for your specific journey.
Within the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim travel destination, Ludwigslust Palace offers a distinct cultural attraction. It was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg and forms, together with its park and town, an ensemble known as the “Little Versailles of the North.” The almost completely preserved late Baroque town layout includes a former court church and an English-style landscaped park. The palace showcases art and courtly domestic culture from the 18th and early 19th centuries. In the village itself, a war memorial on Bresegard bei Picher’s village square also serves as a local place of remembrance.
