Discover Kolkwitz: Local History, Trails and Landscapes
Accommodation in Kolkwitz
If you are looking for a hotel in Kolkwitz, you can choose what to explore in the municipality according to your travel interests: local history, trails and landscapes, horse-related activities or fishing. Highlights include historic buildings in Papitz, the “Around Kolkwitz” circular route and activities at various locations throughout the municipality. This can help you decide which aspects you would like to learn more about during your stay.
Culture and Local History
The former Kolkwitz hospital was inaugurated on 13 June 1900. Visits and guided tours are currently not possible: the property is private and may not be entered. The municipality is also home to a toy museum established by the Knabe family in the district of Kackrow.
Papitz is home to a late Gothic church with a 37-metre-high tower. Its features include a church bell dating from 1396 and a historic organ from 1827/28. These dates point to different periods in the church’s history: the bell dates from the 14th century, while the organ is from the early 19th century. Papitz is also known for an annual dressage and show-jumping competition. If you would like to plan your trip around the event, check the dates in advance.
Trails and Landscapes
The “Around Kolkwitz” circular route offers a 12-kilometre shortcut through Kolkwitz, also known as Gołkojce. It runs along forest, field and meadow paths, passing ponds, pools and alder carrs. Gentle hills among pine and mixed forests are also part of the landscape along the route. These varied landscape features give the circular route a character distinct from the connecting roads between individual districts.
The typical Spreewald landscape can be experienced on the old road connecting Papitz and Milkersdorf and on the road between Kunersdorf and Papitz. Rows of trees separate fields and meadows there. The Kolkwitz districts of Babow and Milkersdorf, as well as part of Papitz, are within the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve. This connection with the reserve applies to these districts and the specified part of Papitz.
Horse-Related Activities and Oberteich
There are seven riding stables in the municipality of Kolkwitz, offering activities such as riding holidays, horse breeding and riding lessons. These activities have different focuses: riding holidays and lessons centre on working with horses, while horse breeding is a different aspect of the equestrian field. If riding is one of your interests, these types of activities can help guide your travel plans.
The Oberteich pond in Glinzig, covering around 35 hectares, opened as a fishing pond in 1992. Fishing and fish sales took place there over a period of 20 years. With a bit of luck, anglers may catch pike, zander, catfish and eel. The pond’s history, the limited period during which fishing and fish sales took place, and the fish species mentioned are distinct aspects of the site.
