If you’re looking for a hotel in Heiligengrabe, you can plan your stay around culture, village history and cycling. The Kloster Stift zum Heiligengrabe monastery shapes the cultural offering in the town; in Blumenthal, the focus is on church architecture and local history. Trails and long-distance cycle routes add to these themes. The wider travel destination of Ostprignitz-Ruppin also offers landscapes and activities. The following places give you an overview of the highlights that might suit your travel plans.

Monastery culture in Heiligengrabe

Concerts and film evenings are regularly held at Kloster Stift zum Heiligengrabe, and guests are welcome. A permanent exhibition on the history of the monastery and the later Heiligengrabe convent for women is on display in the east wing of the abbey. Recurring cultural events are thus complemented by an exhibition on the monastery’s history. If you’d like to include a concert or film evening in your stay, plan around the dates of the events.

Village history and architecture in Blumenthal

In Blumenthal, architecture and local history complement the focus on the monastery. The village church is a rectangular, hall-style fieldstone building dating from the 16th century. The local history room in Blumenthal displays objects documenting the village’s history. A visit can therefore bring together two different subjects: the architectural form of a historic village church and the history of the village. If you plan to visit the local history room, check the current visiting arrangements in advance.

The wooden Blumenthal observation tower is 44.65 metres high and has 187 steps. It is currently temporarily closed due to age-related wear. Take this closure into account when choosing places to visit during your stay.

Trails and cycling routes

A new, safe route for pedestrians and cyclists between Heiligengrabe railway station and Kloster Stift zum Heiligengrabe was completed in 2023. It runs parallel to Blesendorfer StraĂźe and passes several trees. This describes a connection between the station and the monastery that can be used by both pedestrians and cyclists.

At the municipal level, the Bischofstour, Elbe-MĂĽritz-Rundweg, Historische Stadtkerne 3 and Tour Brandenburg are listed as long-distance cycle routes in the municipality of Heiligengrabe. The Bischofstour offers a specific example of a route: it is 108 kilometres long, passes through Heiligengrabe and Wittstock, among other places, and invites you on a journey back to the Middle Ages through the Prignitz landscape. The long-distance cycle routes in the municipality provide a guide to the area, alongside a route whose length and course through both towns are also specified.

In the wider travel destination of Ostprignitz-Ruppin

Ostprignitz-Ruppin is predominantly rural: expanses and tranquillity, green beech and pine forests, meadows, shady avenues, and numerous lakes and rivers shape the landscape of this wider travel destination. A striking example is the Kyritz-Ruppiner Heide. It covers 12,000 hectares in Ostprignitz-Ruppin, has been part of the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park since 2021, and is one of Europe’s largest contiguous areas of Calluna heathland. The heath provides a habitat for numerous protected and endangered animal species, including more than 70 bird species; wolves have also been present since 2008.

The Stechlin-Ruppiner Land Nature Park lies partly within Ostprignitz-Ruppin and offers opportunities for hiking and cycling. In the Kyritz-Ruppiner Heide, visitors can explore the landscape on electrically assisted fat bikes, even on unpaved, often sandy trails, and experience its flora and fauna with care. For longer hikes, the Ruppiner-Land-Rundwanderweg partly follows the European long-distance path E 10. The Fontane-Radweg leads to places and landscapes described by Theodor Fontane in his work “Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg.”

Equestrian sports are also part of the region: the Brandenburg State Stud in Neustadt (Dosse) is a special attraction for equestrians in Ostprignitz-Ruppin. Together with Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the 160-kilometre GestĂĽtsweg between the Redefin and Neustadt (Dosse) state studs forms a regional network of riding trails.
