Breydin: Discover natural landscapes and cultural heritage
Accommodation in Breydin
Breydin between nature and history
Breydin lies on the edge of Barnim Nature Park. Forests and extensive agricultural land surround the town, while the Nonnenfließ adds a distinctive watercourse to the landscape. Its source is in Breydin, in Tuchen-Klobbicke near the border with Heckelberg. Visitors hike along the Nonnenfließ. When choosing where to stay, you can therefore consider both the natural landscape and local history: the surroundings offer a connection to nature, while the mill remains, church and castle park mark different historical points of interest. This lets you choose accommodation based on the things that matter to you in Breydin.
Along the Nonnenfließ: Hiking and traces of mills
Along the Nonnenfließ in Tuchen-Klobbicke are the remains of the Mittelmühle and the Neue Mühle, which you can explore. The stream is therefore not only a reference point for hikes, but also for local milling history. The remains of the two mills give an exploration along the stream a specific historical focus, while forests and extensive agricultural land form the wider landscape. If you are weighing nature and historical traces when planning your trip, you will find two closely connected themes here: the watercourse and the mill remains.
Half-timbered church in Tuchen-Klobbicke
The half-timbered church in Tuchen-Klobbicke is among the listed attractions and is also known as the wedding church. The Biesenthal municipal association holds wedding ceremonies there; if a ceremony is important to your plans, check availability in advance. The Fachwerkkirche Tuchen e.V. association organizes and runs the church’s cultural program. This adds two more points of interest to the half-timbered architecture: wedding ceremonies and cultural activities. This focus differs from the mill remains along the Nonnenfließ and offers another perspective on local history.
Park history and activities in Trampe
In Trampe, the former castle park represents another part of local history. It is considered a special attraction; the remains of Breydin Castle’s fieldstone walls lie in the rear part of the park. The castle is documented several times in 1308, and the castle park has been protected as a historic monument since 1981. The park, wall remains and historical references to the castle offer a different focus from the church and mills in Tuchen-Klobbicke. Riding lessons are also offered in Trampe; check current availability in advance if you plan to take part.
Getting there and accommodation
From Eberswalde, take the B 168 to Trampe; from Grüntal to Tuchen-Klobbicke, the route follows the K6006. Check current road conditions before setting out. Froschmühle is accommodation in the forest in Tuchen-Klobbicke. Families with several children and groups can relax there; before making an inquiry, check whether the accommodation is currently operating. For dining, the Landhotel on the L168 toward Heckelberg is an option. Check in advance whether its dining service is currently available.
Barnim as a wider destination
The wider Barnim destination offers a view beyond Breydin’s local history. Chorin Monastery is a key work of North German Brick Gothic architecture; the Niederfinow Boat Lift is Germany’s oldest still-operating boat lift. The 143-kilometer “Around the Schorfheide” circular hiking trail also passes through Barnim Nature Park. The Barnim region therefore encompasses both architectural and technological history as well as a long hiking route.
