If you are considering Pankow as a destination for a hotel stay, local attractions can help you choose: history on the Anger, art in the gallery and public spaces, insights into a historic residential setting, and paths through green spaces. Consider which focus matters for your stay—cultural history, contemporary art or walks in parks.

The Anger, Church and Art

The village church “Zu den vier Evangelisten” stands on Pankow’s Anger on Breite Straße and was first mentioned in a document in 1230. On days when there is no market, Pankower Anger feels like a small oasis amid the traffic on Breite Straße; the market square is lined with trees and benches. Here, the historic church and a square shaped by traffic, with a tree-lined market area, meet.

Once a year, a new sculpture is installed on the lawn in front of the church, beside the broad-spreading weeping beech, as part of an art project. Galerie Pankow explores current trends in contemporary art through exhibitions and events. The annual sculpture project adds a recurring feature to the public space, while the gallery engages with contemporary art through exhibitions and events. This gives visitors interested in culture several points of connection: the church’s long documented history, outdoor art and engagement with current art trends.

Parks and Paths

Bürgerpark Pankow officially opened as a public park on 25 August 1907. It was laid out on land beside the banks of the Panke. Its landscape features a variety of trees and shrubs, green spaces and flowerbeds, numerous works of art, a popular rose garden and a distinctive fountain that gushes high every summer. These different features offer various points of interest if you are considering a visit to the park, from landscaped areas and art to the seasonal fountain.

Green, quiet paths lead from Pankower Anger into the inner blocks and via Paule-Park, then continue along Pestalozzi- and Parkstraße to Bürgerpark and Schlosspark. Kavalierhaus, also known as Villa Hildebrand, has a small park with venerable old trees and winding paths that invite visitors to take a stroll. So, walking options range from a named route connecting the Anger with park destinations to winding paths in a smaller park.

Museum and Events

At the Museum Pankow location at Heynstraße 8 in the Pankow district, parts of a middle-class apartment from the late 19th century have been preserved on the piano nobile. Some of the architectural features and furnishings are partly original. The annotated history of the house and its residents, together with the historic garden, conveys an impression of middle-class life around 1900. The courtyard is also part of the site: it is part of an ensemble protected as a garden monument.

On registered guided tours, you can learn a great deal about the lives of Berlin’s middle classes at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. Concerts, readings and various events take place at Kavalierhaus, also known as Villa Hildebrand. If you are planning to attend a particular event, check the date in advance.
