Nature, a scale model and a winter trail

The Winterlingen Planet Trail depicts the solar system to scale, at a ratio of 1 to 1 billion, along the “Raum-Pfad” (Space Trail). At this scale, the model sizes and distances are in the same proportion to reality: every length shown corresponds to one billionth of its real length. This spatial model offers a different way to explore the subject than the museums’ historical collections.

Theatre and history

The Winterlingen Post Museum is located in the old post office building at Ebinger Straße 56, 72474 Winterlingen. Its collection comprises more than 5,000 postal items, including a complete old post-office counter and more than 300 postmaster’s caps from around the world. In this way, different aspects of postal history come together: a complete counter and an extensive collection of headwear.

The local history museum in Harthausen is located in Harthausen Town Hall and opened on 10 October 1987. It was established using collections and loans, and serves as a village museum and a place to connect with the area’s past. Unlike the Post Museum, it focuses on local history rather than postal history.

Protected natural areas and swimming pools

Winterlingen Natural Swimming Pool is one of the highest-altitude natural swimming pools in Germany. It is also a valuable wetland biotope, specially protected under nature conservation legislation, and home to great crested newts, alpine newts and smooth newts. Winterlingen Indoor Swimming Pool has a water surface of 250 m² and a pool measuring 25 m long and 10 m wide. The two pools offer different highlights: the natural swimming pool stands out for its altitude and protected biotope, while the indoor pool is notable for its dimensions. The Harthauser Heide, a large-scale natural monument under Section 32 of the Nature Conservation Act, is located in the municipality of Winterlingen. Guided tours for adults and children are offered there in summer. As these are seasonal, confirm the latest dates before planning your visit.

Cross-country skiing when snow conditions are suitable

Above the Dickeloch ski lift, the WSV Winterlingen grooms the Winterlingen trail as a 5.6 km classic cross-country ski route when snow conditions are suitable. Around 1 km of the route is lit during the ski lift’s opening hours. Planning therefore depends on both snow conditions and lift hours.
