Discover Geislingen
Accommodation in Geislingen
Geislingen combines a stream running through the center of town with views from the surrounding heights. Other highlights include the reconstructed French garden in Schlosspark, a wayside chapel and a circular trail through orchards. These different attractions can help you decide what kind of destination Geislingen is for you: when comparing hotels in Geislingen, consider whether you are most interested in the landscape, the history of the park or a nature trail.
Town and countryside along the Riedbach
The town center lies at the foot of the Kleiner Heuberg, in the valley depression of the Riedbach. The stream runs right through town, its banks lined with many trees, especially chestnuts. The Riedbach and Kleiner Heuberg give you two clear points of reference for Geislingen’s location: the watercourse within the town and the heights at its edge.
From the hills around Geislingen, you can look out over the town, the Swabian Alb panorama of the Balinger Berge and Hohenzollern Castle. From the open heights of Eichberg, the view stretches northwest across Geislingen to the Black Forest and Gäu; to the southeast, it opens onto the Alb panorama and Hohenzollern Castle. The Eichberg nature reserve within the municipality is home to more than 300 different flowering plants, including eleven orchid species. The views and plant life offer different reasons to experience Eichberg as a natural landscape.
Schlosspark and local history
In the 1980s, Schlosspark was reconstructed as a French garden based on old plans. At the entrance stand the Gabriele-Linde, planted in 1869, and the Franz-Linde, planted in 1879. The park thus brings together a reconstruction based on historical plans and two trees associated with names and planting dates.
For orientation in the town center: Schlossparkbad is directly behind the castle and can be reached via Schlossstraße or Alleenstraße. There is a large car park in front of Schlossparkhalle. At the edge of town on the road towards Rosenfeld-Isingen stands Herrgottshäusle, an open wayside chapel featuring a depiction of “Christ and the Thieves.” The park, swimming pool and chapel are distinct local landmarks; alongside the nature trails, they give your stay cultural and architectural points of interest.
Orchards and trails on Eichberg
The Orchard Nature Trail is a 2-kilometer circular route. It passes Josefskapelle and winds through the orchards in the Eichberg nature reserve. The trail describes 24 old fruit varieties, including local varieties. The route therefore combines a clearly defined trail with a subject you can discover along the way: the old fruit varieties of the orchards. If you plan to walk the trail, check local conditions before setting out.
There is also a picnic and barbecue area at Kaiserstein, accessible via a gravel track. Together with the circular trail, it offers a nature-focused experience, while Schlosspark and Herrgottshäusle show other sides of the town.
Hohenzollern Castle in the Zollernalbkreis
Hohenzollern Castle is both part of the view from Geislingen’s heights and a historic and cultural destination in its own right in the Zollernalbkreis. The present-day castle is the third fortress on the Zollerberg. It is located in the municipality of Bisingen, within the boundaries of the district of Zimmern, and was rebuilt between 1850 and 1867 after its two predecessors had been destroyed and fallen into ruin. The castle’s cultural program includes concerts, family days, open-air cinema and exhibitions. This regional context complements the view of the castle from Geislingen without implying that the two places are one and the same.
