If you would also like to consider cultural and historical topics when searching for a hotel, Endingen offers specific points of interest: its early documentary mention, the oldest part of the town center, St. Blasius and a local museum. A hiking trail and a former railway station building add perspectives on the route and the history of transport.

Local history and the oldest part of the town center

Endingen was first mentioned in a document in 793 under the name Eindeinga. The oldest part of the town center lies along the road that follows the Wettbach stream. These two points of reference show different aspects of local history: the historical name is part of the early written record, while the road indicates the location of the oldest settlement core.

The first written mention and the location of the oldest part of the town center answer different questions: when Endingen was first mentioned and where the oldest area of the town center is located.

St. Blasius: Patronage, building history and architecture

The church and parish in Endingen are first documented in 1275 under the patronage of St. Blasius. The present building of the Protestant parish church of St. Blasius was constructed between 1654 and 1657 after its destruction during the Thirty Years’ War. The dates refer to different things: 1275 is the first documentary evidence of the church and parish under this patronage, while 1654–1657 is the construction period of the present building. This distinguishes the medieval record from the later church building.

St. Blasius is a plastered hall church with a polygonal choir. In a hall church, a single unified main space is central; the polygonal choir is the multi-sided end of the church space. The town’s history also has a biographical connection: the rectory at Am Wettbach 23 is the birthplace of the painter Friedrich Oelenhainz, who was born in 1745.

The local museum: emigration, everyday life and crafts

The Endingen Local Museum covers local history, emigration from Endingen to North America, and local clubs and the fire brigade. Exhibits include agricultural equipment, furnishings and household items, as well as hand tools used by carpenters, wheelwrights, shoemakers, stone breakers and stonemasons.

The collection thus covers various areas of work and everyday life: agriculture, the household and several crafts. The tools listed give a tangible sense of the range of trades, while the furnishings and household items offer a different perspective on everyday life.

Former railway station and routes

The reception and administration building of the former Endingen railway station is also part of the town’s architectural history. It was built in 1910 to plans by the building construction office of the Royal Württemberg State Railways. This structure, dating from the early 20th century, adds to the older historical landmarks of the town center and church.

The Heuberg Circular Trail descends via the Hurn to Endingen and then runs for about one kilometer through the forest to the railway crossing in the Endingen district. The approximate distance refers to this forest section, not to the entire loop.

The Rad-Wander-Shuttle service between Balingen and Schömberg via Endingen is listed for Sundays and public holidays from May to October. Check the current timetable before your trip.
