If you’re looking for a hotel in Trossingen, start by planning around your interests: local history, railways, events or time outdoors. The town brings together several clearly distinct themes. At the Auberlehaus Museum, dinosaurs meet the history of Trossingen; the town also has its own railway tradition, the Kesselhaus cultural centre and the Gauger recreation area.

Culture, music and local history

At the Auberlehaus Museum, visitors can explore the history of Trossingen alongside its dinosaurs. The Kesselhaus cultural centre offers a different focus: the former power station of Matth. Hohner AG opened as an events venue in 2002 and hosts blues, jazz and cabaret events. HOHNER Musical Instruments also offers guided tours of its production facilities in Trossingen. If you’re planning a factory tour, confirm arrangements in advance; for an event, check the dates before planning your trip.

Railways and planning your visit

The Trossingen Railway runs from Trossingen Stadtbahnhof to Trossingen Staatsbahnhof, on the railway line between Villingen and Rottweil. The trains that opened the line in 1898 have been preserved and remain operational. The small railway museum also explores this theme. The museum is listed as open from 1:30 pm to 5 pm on the first Sunday of each month from April to October; check the latest dates before your visit. This offers two ways to understand railways in Trossingen: as a named line with its stations, and as a subject of local history.

Trails, fishing and a natural swimming pool

The Gauger recreation area has walking and cycling trails, a wildlife enclosure and a playground for young children. It offers a mix of outdoor activities and leisure facilities. Anyone wishing to fish at Gaugersee in Trossingen must present a fishing licence to obtain a day or annual permit from the town. The fishing season generally runs from 1 April to 15 October; confirm the permit and season rules with the town in advance.

The TROASE natural swimming pool is on the western edge of Trossingen and operates from May to September. Check the current seasonal dates before your visit. This gives you several options when planning: trails and leisure facilities in Gauger, fishing at Gaugersee or a seasonal visit to the natural swimming pool.

Tuttlingen district

Covering a total area of 734.4 square kilometres, Tuttlingen district includes the southwestern foothills of the Swabian Alb, parts of the Baar region and the valley of the Young Danube. The northern part of the district has juniper heaths and the region known as the 10-Tausender, with ten mountains over 1,000 metres high. The Danube Gorge and the Höwenegg volcanic crater are also among the district’s scenic highlights; white limestone cliffs rise above the Danube Valley.

Another natural attraction in the district is the Danube sinkhole between Immendingen, Möhringen, Tuttlingen and Fridingen. Its appearance can change from day to day: the Danube may carry a lot of water there, run completely dry at various spots or carry only a little. The DonauWellen premium hiking trail “Donauversinkung” runs between Tuttlingen-Möhringen and Immendingen. Check trail conditions before setting out.
