Ailingen combines trails through orchards and gentle hills with the natural Rotach Valley, scenic viewpoints and historic sites. When planning your stay, you can choose according to your interests: would you like to focus on outdoor activities, are you interested in local history, or would you like to combine both? The different themes offer specific starting points.

Landscape, trails and views

Trails among fruit trees, gentle hills and the natural Rotach Valley invite you to stroll, hike and go Nordic walking. The Ailingen Panorama Trail passes Höhlerösch, a protected wet meadow. This connects a specific destination along the trail with a protected landscape. If you prefer to plan around scenic viewpoints, Haldenberg and Horach offer panoramic views of the Alps.

At Horach, a hidden viewpoint on a water reservoir also offers views of Ailingen and the mountains. Horach is a drumlin formed by glaciers in the northern hinterland of Lake Constance.

Another connection to the landscape can be found at the StreuObstGarten near the Weilermühle recreation area. There are 180 trees, and plenty of information explains traditional orchard cultivation. The StreuObstGarten Weilermühle includes a recreation area with barbecue spots and a playground. The combination of orchard cultivation and recreation offers a different focus from a hike or a view from a scenic viewpoint.

Local history across different eras

Haldenberg Chapel is a popular destination for an outing on the 479-metre-high Haldenberg. The carpenter Johann Heinzelmann designed and built it in 1892. Its history can therefore be tied to a specific building and a precisely dated year of construction.

Ittenhausen Mill and St. John the Baptist Parish Church also reflect different historical dates. The mill was first mentioned in a document in 1198. The older church was built around 1500, but became too small; St. John the Baptist was therefore rebuilt in 1959. The church's history is thus marked not only by a year of construction, but also by the transition from the older building to the later one.

The Old Ailingen Rectory was built in 1710, with unusually elaborate and imposing half-timbering. The Ittenhausen Museum offers another way to explore local history: the City of Friedrichshafen makes it available to the Society for History and Local Heritage (e. V.) as a museum, and the association regularly uses it for exhibitions.

Weighing leisure activities and interests

Ailingen Wave Pool has a diving facility and a water slide. This adds a leisure option with two specific facilities to the range of activities.

For a landscape-focused stay, the Panorama Trail, Höhlerösch, Horach and StreuObstGarten offer different themes: a trail, a protected wet meadow, a viewpoint and traditional orchard cultivation. Those more interested in architecture and local history can explore Haldenberg Chapel, Ittenhausen Mill, St. John the Baptist, the Old Rectory and the museum as points of interest in their own right. This makes it easy to tailor your choices to whether you prefer spending time outdoors, exploring historical developments or including a mix of interests in your plans.
