Eberstadt is a municipality in the Heilbronn district of Baden-WĂĽrttemberg and a winegrowing community in the Weinsberger Tal. Several different themes are available to help you plan your trip: the butterfly trail on the outskirts, hiking routes through varied landscapes, winegrowing and a historic town center. Depending on your interests, you can explore Eberstadt from a nature, landscape, wine or local history perspective.

Butterfly Trail and Hiking

The Butterfly Quiz Trail on the outskirts is 500 meters long and follows an easy-to-walk gravel path. Along the 16 information boards, you can learn more about butterflies and their way of life. Eberstadt has been known as the Butterfly Village since 2015; the trail offers a tangible connection to nature during your stay. Guided tours on the butterfly trail can be booked. Check the booking arrangements before your trip.

Beyond this individual themed trail, there are numerous hiking paths through meadows, vineyards and forests. Route WT9 includes a place to stop and rest at Lennacher See. The options differ in focus: the Butterfly Quiz Trail combines a manageable distance with information about butterflies, while the other paths lead through varied landscapes. This lets you choose between a clearly defined nature theme and hikes with changing landscape views.

Winegrowing in the Weinsberger Tal

Eberstadt is associated with the wines EberfĂĽrst and Sommerhalde. These two names give the wine theme a specific local connection. The hiking paths through vineyards also highlight the landscape, while meadows and forests are among the other landscapes described along the routes. Winegrowing and hiking can therefore be considered as different focuses for your trip: local wine names on the one hand, and the varied landscapes along the trails on the other.

Local History and Townscape

The first documented mention of Eberstadt dates to 1247. It appears in a confirmation by Pope Innocent in connection with Oberstenfeld Abbey. A visible landmark in the present-day townscape is the tower of St. Ulrich’s Church: it is considered a distinctive landmark and marks the town center. The historic center also reflects different periods of construction. Older buildings have been restored, while new buildings have been carefully integrated. Those interested in local history can thus consider an early written reference and the design of the town center as two distinct aspects of Eberstadt.

Market and Wine Festival

The annual Eberstadt Market combines a wine and street festival with the Glockengräberstaffel and a traders’ market. The annual Wine Festival of the Winemakers of the Weinsberger Tal is also held in and around the Eberstadt Wine House. The events have different focuses: the market brings together festivities and market activity, while the wine festival is dedicated to the winemakers of the Weinsberger Tal. If you would like to plan your trip around one of the events, check the latest dates in advance.
