Igelsberg retains its original rural Black Forest character; typical Black Forest farmhouses shape the village’s appearance. The network of paths in the surrounding area supports walks, hikes and cycling.

When planning your trip, you can give different weight to two interests: the rural village itself or activities on the network of paths. For hikes, route length is another basis for comparison.

Compare Hiking Routes by Distance

The five hiking routes differ in length:

  • Village Loop: 2.7 km
  • Horn Loop: 4.9 km
  • Buchrain Loop: 5.18 km
  • Eisenbrunnen Loop: 6 km
  • Panorama Loop: 8.5 km

The Village Loop is the shortest of the options, and the Panorama Loop is the longest. The Horn Loop and Buchrain Loop, at 4.9 and 5.18 km, are close in length; the difference is just under 300 metres. The distance between the endpoints—the Village Loop and the Panorama Loop—is 5.8 km. This lets you choose between two routes of similar length and a wider range of distances when planning your hike. Route conditions can change; check them before setting out. The longest route, the Panorama Loop, is a little over three times as long as the shortest, the Village Loop, among the five routes.

Cycling and Cross-Country Skiing

As well as walks and hikes, the network of paths in the surrounding area also supports cycling. Cross-country skiing is another option: when there is enough snow, you can set off directly from Igelsberg. Snow conditions determine whether this winter plan is possible; check them for your travel dates.

Getting Here by Bus

Igelsberg can be reached by bus from Freudenstadt. The village has two stops: Igelsberg Ort is in the village centre, while Igelsberg Abzweig is about one kilometre from the village. When travelling here, check the exact stop name, as the two stops are in different locations. Check bus frequency and services before your journey. This will help you choose a connection that suits your travel plans.
