The AugenBlick Loop, the outdoor pool and the historic sites in Glatten’s Neuneck district offer different highlights for a stay. The wider Freudenstadt destination has more places to visit, for example in Alpirsbach and Freudenstadt itself.

AugenBlick Loop and viewpoint

The AugenBlick Loop in Glatten is 13.2 kilometres long and includes 375 metres of elevation gain. It goes around and through the municipality of Glatten, including the districts of Neuneck and Böffingen, to the Naturpark-AugenBlick. The starting point and finish are at the sports ground in Glatten. The distance and elevation gain give you specific details for planning the loop as a separate activity.

At the Naturpark-AugenBlick, the AugenBlick Glatten Palmberg viewpoint, there is a bench, a small table and a labelled panorama board. The viewpoint offers a place to stop along the route: you can take in the panorama with the help of the board and use the seating.

History in Neuneck and the outdoor pool

Part of the former castle of the Lords of Neuneck, built around 1230, stands in Glatten’s Neuneck district. The Church of St Mary and St George is also in Neuneck. Built in 1493, it originated as the castle chapel of the Lords of Neuneck. The chronology and the church’s origins in the castle chapel offer two specific starting points for a cultural and historical focus in Glatten.

Glatten outdoor pool was built in 1938 under municipal management and is still run by the municipality today. If a visit to the outdoor pool is part of your plans, check its seasonal opening hours before you go. This will help you fit this activity into your travel dates.

More cultural attractions in the wider Freudenstadt destination

The wider Freudenstadt destination has more cultural attractions, including Alpirsbach Abbey and its imposing abbey church. It is one of the few monasteries in southwest Germany still preserved according to the principles of the medieval Hirsau Reform. The classic guided historical tour in Alpirsbach visits historic buildings and includes a walk through the spa gardens. If a guided tour is part of your plans, check the current schedule.

The museums in Alpirsbach also cover different subjects. The Museum of Local History explains the development of the town of Alpirsbach through selected collectibles. At the Abbey Museum, the permanent exhibition “Monks and Scholars” displays garments, letters, drawings, games and vessels from six centuries. This lets you compare the town’s history, told through selected collectibles, with an exhibition featuring specific objects from several centuries. Experimenta in Freudenstadt offers a different focus: as a hands-on museum, it invites the whole family to participate and try things out.

In Freudenstadt itself, the market square is another distinct place to visit in the wider destination: it is Germany’s largest market square and features 50 fountains and arcades.
