Aichtal offers a range of options for a stay: signposted hiking trails, cultural and historical sites, museums and theaters. These offerings differ not only in subject matter, but also in format. Alongside individual trails with a clear historical or artistic focus, the Museum Cycle Route connects several places. For your planning, you can first decide whether hiking, local history, outdoor art, or a visit to a museum or theater should take priority.

Hiking amid history and nature art

The 4.5-kilometer Historical Circular Trail is signposted in the forest around Aichtal. It presents the cultural history of the Schönbuch region, from the Celtic period to the late Middle Ages. Along the trail are the clay pits near Neuenhaus and a boundary stone dating from 1822. The 4.5-kilometer distance gives you a specific point of reference for planning your day; check local conditions before you travel.

The Betzenberg Trail focuses on a different subject: the extraction of Stubensandstein sandstone, and passes a quarry. Unlike the Historical Circular Trail, its focus is not the cultural history of the Schönbuch region, but the extraction of Stubensandstein sandstone.

The Fratzenweg starts in Neuenhaus near the Uhlberg inn and climbs to the Uhlberg Tower. Faces are carved into trees and stumps; along the route, you’ll find works by nature artist Adalbert Bachofer. His studio is at the start of the trail. The Uhlberg Tower is 25 meters high and stands on Uhlberg at 469 meters above sea level. It is considered a family-friendly destination. Check current access arrangements for the tower before your visit.

Museums, theater and cycling route

The Grötzingen Local History Museum covers local prehistory and town history, archaeological finds, and everyday life in the past. The Grötzingen School Museum offers a different perspective on the past: it focuses on teaching before computers and other technological aids. In Aich, the Bakery Museum documents the former Stückle bakery through historical baking utensils. Opening arrangements may change, so check the latest visitor information before visiting a museum.

For information about the plays in the current season, check the season details before your visit. The Museum Cycle Route runs from Weil der Stadt to Nürtingen and passes through Aichtal via Waldenbuch and Neuenhaus before continuing to Nürtingen. The route is designed to be family-friendly for hiking and cycling. Check current route information if you’re planning a specific stage.
